I'm not sure about the numbers, but I'd wager they are similar in size. In terms of political influence, well like I've said before, Trump's election could be arguably the first time the far right have actually been in power, so the sample size is pretty small already.

Only if you don't consider all the very vocal republicans mainstream conservatives. Trump isn't the first to run on a xenophobic ticket. He's only the first to be very outspoken on the matter. I consider anyone running an anti LGBT agenda to be a rightwing extremist also. Trump didn't arise from nothing. The soil already was fertile when he won the election.

I doubt very much that the same can be said on the extreme left.
