That makes sense. I would't be surprised if the laws of Physics change from Galaxy to Galaxy!

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Typical fundie bullshit - where exactly in that entirely irrelevant passage do you think it talks about the Alpha constant not being constant?
I bet you could find a cake recepie in there if you tried hard enough!

Hey,
If I may interject, the laws of physics do change, but not in the universe versus here on the planet. It seems more, if I have interpreted it correctly, that the rules of physics are only the rules for a certain scale or size of reality. The rules we are stuck in are the macro-rules, for lack of a better name. The rules that microscopic materials follow, which I think are only slightly different than ours, work on that scale. The rules of nano-scale are very, very much different than our physics up here. Aluminium is highly explosive in nano particles. A sheet of aluminum foil is not. And the third level, also if I am not mistaken, is the quantum. Another distinction of space, time, and size. The rules of physics in the quantum realm are turned on their heads. So I don't think that the universe has different rules per se, but that since it is at least a couple scale grades larger than us, it will have to function with slightly different physics. Snother way to explain is that all nano matieral follows certain rules everywhere. All maco material follows certain rules (of physics) everywhere else. I don't think we will find other galaxies with different rules, unless those galaxies are found through a micro- or telo-scope, and are in fact other renditions of this same presten reality. Quote:Revelation 21:1-4 tells how that will happen. You know what Thomas Jefferson said of that piece of shit. Quote:"It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it (i.e. the Book of Revelations), and I then considered it merely the ravings of a maniac, no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherence of our own nightly dreams." Smart man, Jefferson. No wonder they hate him in Texas. RE: Scientists Claim Laws Of Physics Change Throughout The Universe

@Pippy: It would make sense to assume that all matter in the Universe is the same!
So I thought id better read the article. Very interesting. “After measuring alpha in around 300 distant galaxies, a consistency emerged: this magic number, which tells us the strength of electromagnetism, is not the same everywhere as it is here on Earth, and seems to vary continuously along a preferred axis through the universe,” Webb said. “The implications for our current understanding of science are profound. If the laws of physics turn out to be merely ‘local by-laws’, it might be that whilst our observable part of the universe favours the existence of life and human beings, other far more distant regions may exist where different laws preclude the formation of life, at least as we know it.” The apparent fluctuation from galaxy to galaxy is minuscule – about one part in 100,000 – but apparently that’s enough. Webb theorises that if his theory is correct we will need entirely new physical theories to replace the current ones. Theoretically. see that's another level altogether. I was discussing scale, but to propose that physics are different on the same scale, just far away, is surly madness.
Interesting. RE: Scientists Claim Laws Of Physics Change Throughout The Universe

So essentially you are right, thought I think you over explained it to the point where your entire idea almost became nonsensical This idea of the fine structure constant not being constant may have some merit, thought it remains to be seen - this after all was a rather complicated analysis of rather imprecise signals so unless a lot of careful attention was payed to the possible sources of interference the experiment could be a write-off. Peer review for this one will be very interesting, thought i don't expect too much to come of it.
