This is a known scam; one of my co-workers got a call from these assholes, called the FBI, and got the skinny on them.

I was getting several of these a day for awhile, which migjt have been disconcerting if I wasn't certain I'm squared up on any money owed to IRS - pretty sure of we had an issue, they'd have sent me a letter. AFAIK, IRS initiates contact by mail. So neener neener, can't fool me.

I felt the same... And they will send it certified mail..... But still gave it more attention then I normally would just in case.   As a general rule, I don't give out information for anyone who initiates contact with me.   I will happily call back, and I will find the contact number on my own.

I consider myself pretty protective, but they somehow got my social and where opening up credit cards in my name.   Also added phones to my cell plan.  Sucks... Canceling a card is pretty easy... but you can't get rid of your social security number.   Luckily I caught everything really quickly, and wasn't liable for any of it.

The only thing I did, that I was a little hesitant about, was sign up for Credit Karma.   This was at the recommendation of a co-worker who had their identity stolen quite a bit and used it to get alerts (later found out it was only credit card numbers).   But the are a national advertising company, so I'm not sure if it was them directly.

Now I'm paying for identity theft monitoring   Angry
