A friend of mine has had 2 relationships with men who turned out to be crazy. One was OCD (and not a fun form of it either) and the other was, well, let's just say polyamorous in a way that wasn't compatible with a long term exclusive relationship with a member of the same sex . . .
He's also out lived 2 long term companions, and that is a really rough thing to go thru . . .

I can't think of a single negative thing about being married.
I have a few little things that annoy me about Mr CL specifically:
1. He poops 4-5 times a day, and they each take about 20-30 minutes. Which is annoying when we're doing something together, out somewhere, or about to leave the house, and I have to sit there and wait for him to finish.
2. He turns all the lights off before we leave the house.
3. He gets all grumpy when I leave his office door open and let the cats go in there unsupervised.
4. He always wants me to go to the gym with him on Saturdays for leg day.
5. He won't let me grab his crotch in public.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

So much for "til death do you part". So much for my grandparents' ethic of maintaining their marriage until my grandfather's death 67 years later. That's the only kind of marriage I'd ever want to be in.
But then, you can never be sure how things will turn out, I guess.
I'm disabled, and these sorts of things are taboo (or at least were very much so when I was a teen). So, at 41, I have no dating experience. I first (and last) kissed girls when I was 15. If I somehow didn't have spina bifida, it would be interesting to see if I looked at this subject a lot differently.
Pros of being married? Maybe feeling like you're a part of something special that is larger than yourself. Sex and other physical closeness. Help with the questions of adult life (that sounded weird). A greater sense of identity.
Cons? Compromise. Feeling tied down. Not finding enough alone time. Feeling guilty at taking advantage of said alone time.
I'm sure I could think of more.
Don't be afraid of divorce. I did it once and it was awesome. I learned so many things and have a much better marriage now for it. That said, I understand completely. I felt like such a failure at first.
This!

That would be an issue for us lesser mortals, but I should think it's right up your alley.

You'd begrudge a man his thrift and environmental conscience? For shame!
Quote:3. He gets all grumpy when I leave his office door open and let the cats go in there unsupervised.
Perfectly understandable.
Quote:4. He always wants me to go to the gym with him on Saturdays for leg day.
As a leg and ass man, I totally understand.
Quote:5. He won't let me grab his crotch in public.
Damned prude. Time to call an attorney.

Deflection!! C'mon...everybody misses at least one aspect of their single life or find something annoying about marriage vs single. Some miss the excitement of single life, some find the aspect of spending the rest of their life with one single person exhausting, some find marriage "boring" etc

I honestly don't lol. I miss 0% of being single.

I married my high school sweetheart and then divorced him after seven years of being together but only 2 being married. Let's start on where things fucked up there.
I was controlling on the money because he spent it all and didn't have a job.
Fuck up number one: Be sure you have a money plan BEFORE marriage.
He finally got a good job and I thought we were happy. He said we were too poor (his parents are rich so he was used to more and wasn't happy with what we had) and his dad kept pushing him to be in the military.
Fuck up two: Make sure you want the same thing out of life and value things similar.
He joined the military despite me crying hysterically begging him not to. (I am an army brat and I never want that for my kids)
Fuck up three: Make sure that you value one another enough to take it seriously when they say they can't and won't live the life you are forcing upon them. I refused to be an army wife and he refused to stay in our hometown living life pay check to paycheck.
BUT marriage can be SOOOO good too! I've been with my current husband for five years now and married last September.
Where he didn't find me funny my husband now thinks I'm hilarious. When I hated his friends I love my husband's friends now. Where Nate and I used to fight over music Tony and I share similar tastes. Where Nate put his parent's approval over mine Tony values mine the most. I used to think Nate was too immature to handle the bills I was okay with Tony opening a credit card in our names without my approval because I trust him. But most of all when I was happy with Nate it wasn't good enough to him, our life together wasn't good enough so he leaves me crying at home to do what he wants. Now that I am happy with Tony and he says he wants a career and to be able to take care of a family he and I work on getting to a better place together. THAT is the good part of marriage.
