Pope makes a great start in the UK
The pope in a speech warned against the rise of secularism and praised Britain's fight against Hitler's "atheist extremism" during the second world war - great start - not!

He also failed to mention the fact that he was in the Hitler Youth.

Thats about the one thing I don't hold against him. It was required at the time for people of his age to be in the Hitler youth, he had no choice.

He does however have the choice to not be a bigoted, narrow minded, evil prick.

I was just set to start a new thread on this and found there already was one.
I feel cheated.

Anyhoo the the pope what an arsehole.

Couldnt think any less of him than did already though, so as far as this plumbs concerned no change in my opinion.

The pope was constantly skipping Hitler youth meetings, supposedly. But Hitler was CHRISTIAN...

Wasn't there a passage in the bible that mentions about god's curse upon jews?

Are we surprised? Isn't this the same guy who once complained about the "tyranny of individualism", that liberal morality was oppressive somehow?

Not as such but there are a few passages in the epistles where Paul rails against the Jews.

It's more from Christian tradition that we get the "Christ killer" myth, so well captured in Mel Gibson's movie. It's strange to me. You'd think every Christian would thank the Jews. The death of Christ was supposedly essential to salvation.
