So, military service for you, then?  Wink

YOLO and life is crappy enough even when it's going how I want it to.

There are always exemptions and provisions.  Reduced or secondary access (relative to those who serve) for example, to federal services and assistance.

Anything forced sounds not only retarded and immoral... but also rather right-wing. Which is kinda the same thing.

Yeah...I just don't think it's the government's job to force people to work, in any area. And what happens if someone just refuses? Fines? Jail? That sounds rather ludicrous.

-or....reduced or no access to services and assistance afforded to those who do...just like we have now.

...we don't have government-forced work now. (Prisons notwithstanding, which is another can of worms)

You realize that you're not responding to what I said, right? I have access to things that americans who did not serve do not have access to. Perhaps that's what would happen if someone opted out. Not fines, not jail.

I'm having trouble discerning your point. You're in support of government-forced work, and the penalties for those that refuse are...?

The same as the "penalties" for those who don't serve now..in a country where those benefits currently conferred are conferred to all but those who opt out for whatever reason.

Want to be a part of a nationalized health service? Serve.
Want reduced rate and preferential home loans? Serve
Want preferential hiring treatment? Serve.
Want college tuition? Serve.

etc.

I'm still not sure what this means... Can you be a little more specific? I'm having a hard time understanding what that statement is trying to say.

EDIT: ah you added specifics, okay.

The purpose of a nationalized health service is that it's for everyone, regardless of them serving or not...but besides that, yeah those are benefits are some of the ones that veterans get. But that's not 'compulsory gov't service' then. That's just getting benefits from a voluntary service.

You understand that I, as a vet, have access to things that others do not, and preferential treatment where others do not?  What if that were the norm - even for civil service (and civil service in a sector of one's own choosing - just as now with the armed forces)?  The penalty for opting out, would be that you were opting out of those things.
