I'm sure we will have a religiousite defender of the faith soon to point out the babies got what they deserved via the agency of original sin.
Jesus has an answer for everything in his realm, we atheoids have bad attitudes or something and we don't understand His mysterious ways because we don't pray enough.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I find solace in my belief that perpetrators of such atrocities as this will receive their comeuppance in the next life.

Not if the repent then jeebus just makes all the stuff they committed go away and they will go to heaven unlike all those godless heathens who have not killed babies who will go to hell for the crime of not suck your gods cock .Hell they probably believe god commanded them to do it and believe they will be rewarded for it would not be the first time it's happened. The only compensation we get from this is they were caught. The infants are not suffering anymore. And one day these killers will die either as changed people who wake up and regret what they have done or don't and die there crimes ended.
