Well, there's the kicker. That's fine for gamers who are old/moneyed enough to bring extra batteries, charging packs, etc., but that's not going to market to parents who want something for a road trip. Nintendo is markets to little kids big time (my three-year-old niece plays Mario games). They have to appeal to parents' needs. To do that, they would have to keep the DS or make the Switch carry a longer battery life.
I agree. In a house I could plug it into the wall, but I go on an hours long road trip to the beach every year. I would need something that lasts for a while.

I bought a classic from a second hand shop when mine from childhood broke.

Do you mean the mini console or the original NES? I'm looking for the mini.

My mom was all of the early popular consoles. She keeps telling me, "Just borrow mine." No thanks, MA. I want the tiny one.

My gripe about the Switch is the total unpreparedness of Nintendo in having the Virtual Console up and running when they released it. Also I don't know if my My Nintendo account's purchases will be able to transfer to, or at least give a similar Wii-to-Wii U discount for ones already purchased on the previous system. The hardware is so similar I don't see why they couldn't easily accomplish this, unless they're just being dicks like Sony.
Since the Wii U is done, the Switch might be the only opportunity for Nintendo to make a sequel to Pokemon Snap. With the gamepad being so much like a handheld camera, it practically screams to bring back that interesting spin-off.
Ultimately what will determine if I get a Switch is whether they actually do make Gamecube games available on its Virtual Console (and never bother to try and make that same service available for the Wii U), and at least half a dozen of choice titles are available on it.

I've been tempted to get a Switch... as my first proper console since the N64 (if you don't count a DS)... but the games are just way too expensive, at about £50 a pop. So as much as I'd like to get back into all of that, I'm not prepared to pay that much. Having said that, whatever problems you guys are talking about regarding Pokemon, I had the same thing for me with Professor Layton on the DS... when it switched over to being on the 3DS... so if Layton ends up on the Switch, do let me know, cos that might just swing it for me

Those Professor Layton games' novelty really wore off pretty quickly. I mean, I'd need at least two of those full games on one cartridge for it to be remotely worthwhile to me. But if the Switch lets you download the games onto it rather than having to buy the cartridges, or if they're not doing that yet but plan to later on down the line (fucking geniuses, these people...) then you might be able to take advantage of some of the sales they hold on occasion or the ones they offer via My Nintendo. I got a pretty sweet discount on Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U and got both DLC packs for free using my virtual coins built up from other purchases. I think if you get a 30% discount on any of those games to download, that would be a good thing to take advantage of. Might be a hell of a long time before the ideal sale/discount situation becomes available, though.

I loved Nintendo, original gameboy and SNES. But Playstation is my thing now. Love the PS4.
I haven't played many games on my Vita yet.
Switch is like $400 right? That's a halfway decent couch for whenever I finally get my apartment.

Not for me they didn't... absolutely loved them... it was great for puzzle games, the DS. Are you saying then that the Switch is backwardly compatible with older systems? Apologies but all your talk of virtual coins etc is completely foreign to me since I've been so long out of the console/gaming scene... but what you're talking about sounds interesting. I watched a few YouTube videos to look at the games on it, and I gathered from them that you can download games rather than buy the cartridges, but there's some sort regioning system for that... so to get around that, people would buy the cartridges from other countries etc. The one I was looking at with interest, and would probably be my first game if I got one, was called I am Setsuma (or something like that) and the guy reviewing it had to import it from Japan. I don't whether you were asking about downloads as a general question because you don't have one (a switch) yet, or whether you were just talking hypothetically about Layton... so sorry if I answered a question you didn't ask. But thanks for the advice... I now know more than I did before... that there are accounts, coins, and sales etc which would make it much more interesting to have one.
