I'm in a food rut, tell me what ya got.

I'm in a food rut, tell me what ya got.
It's seems that I cook the same things/dinners over and over. I like what I eat for the most part but it does get old after a while.

So, tell me what you like that is not to complicated to prepare. Maybe the wife and I can try a change.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Something uncomplicated? Get a slow cooker. Those are delicious.

Try julienned baby thigh meat breaded in panko crumbs and gently fried in peanut oil

Spaghetti Aglio e Olio!

Tortellini in homemade alfredo sauce with bacon or prosciutto (It's easier than it sounds)

Stir fry vegetables.

Oatmeal (steel cut) with hazelnut sweet cream and dried cranberries

I made this a couple of days ago.  The wife told me to save the recipe which is always a good sign.

An amazing flavor combination of garlicky, buttery goodness – so elegant and easy to make in 20 min or less!

Ingredients:
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 1/2 pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chicken stock
  • Juice of 1 lemon, or more, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
Directions:
  1. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Add shrimp, salt and pepper, to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until pink, about 2-3 minutes; set aside.
  3. Add garlic to the skillet, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in chicken stock and lemon juice. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until reduced by half, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in remaining 6 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon at a time, until melted and smooth.
  4. Stir in shrimp and gently toss to combine.
  5. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley leaves, if desired.

I'll second the idea of getting a slow cooker, though I don't think they're particularly tasty. Smile What comes out of them can be though.

Here are a few of the recipes I use mine for:

Slow cookers really are the easiest way to go.

The ingrediants to this may sound complicated but seriously it's not a complicated process.

Pretty much every day I have chickpeas with masala, tumeric and ginger spice mixed with some kind of hot sauce.

It's just putting a tin of chickpeas into a pot, cover them with the spice and sauce and they're done in less than 10 minutes.  They go perfect with salmon if you need a bit of extra.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I'll second the steel cut oatmeal but lets leave out any dairy or dairy substitute and drown it in fresh fruit and walnuts instead.

Soups are easy and have quite a variety.

Also burritos. Just get varied toppings of choice, put in tortilla, bake in sauce or steam or nuke, easy as can be.

I third the crockpot suggestion though.

And Quiché! Eggs, cheeses and veggies of choice, ham or bacon or other meats if that's your thing. Get premade pie crust, pop in oven, delicious!
