Yeah, as I said, I think it's a complicated issue. The other girls seemed perfectly happy with it, so if they're good with it, I have no complaint. Of course, you're right. There is the possibility that it bothers them, which is why I leave it to the school.

It's very sad that these people are born with the wrong bodies or the wrong hormones or a "mental disorder," as some trans people and some not-so-nice people might label it. I'm not sure of the cause of trangenderism, but I think it's awfully sad, and must be terribly uncomfortable for trans people. Still, they have been born transgender, and will have to learn to navigate their lives as transgender people, realizing that they are not "less" than their preferred gender, but that they are different. It's a shit card to be dealt, unless you're a really well-adapted person who owns that shit. A lot of us are dealt shit cards. We can't pretend that card was never dealt, but we can embrace transgenderism for the perfectly normal, but inherently different, thing that it is. Neither denying there are differences or denying these people have legitimate needs, rights and complaints will help.

Just a guess here, but it could be that she's not obsessed at all and is just talking about something. Could be that you're shite at interpreting people's motives. Could be that you're just screaming at clouds. It could also be that she is transphobic, but let's not pretend it's even the most likely way to interpret this discussion.

apparent obsession any other way. You seem not to want this discussed at all. You seem to think everyone must agree with you. And anyone who does not must be transphobic  
A complex issue like this is not as black and white as you like to think but subtle shades of grey. Which means it actually should be discussed. You apparently do not understand
that you do not get to decide what is and is not appropriate subject matter for this forum since it is not your personal blog. If you do not like the thread you do not have to read
or post in it. Instead you can simply choose to ignore it and let those who do want to discuss the subject do so without you passing judgement on them for the crime of thinking
differently to you. Participating in open discussion is actually the most effective way to tackle prejudice and change minds and so is much better than not wanting any discussion

I'll tell you right fucking now that people who care about sports will obsess for decades over a shortstop who let a ball slide between his feet during the World Series, debate for hours every time they see each other soon after a game where a controversial rule led to a loss or a win. Ever heard of the Snow Bowl? We still talk about that shit here in Mass. It happened more than a decade ago. Fuck you for thinking my interest in whether sports are fair is because I want to dehumanize someone. You're attributing malice to a genuine interest in sports because you don't fucking understand it. Fuck off with your shit accusations.

Yes, I agree with the IOC.

If an athlete--born the gender they are competing as--has an advantage over other athletes (perceived or otherwise) nobody has any problem with allowing them to compete as that gender. It doesn't matter how big the advantage is. Maybe it's a very tall girl playing basketball. And I mean 6'4, not 5'10. The problem only rises when it involves an athlete who isn't Cisgender.

I think what people are really worried about is that male athletes will start to transition solely to compete in female athletics. (Well, at least the ones that aren't just transphobic). I mean maybe they're not quite good enough at their current level. However, medical experts seem to agree that after a year on hormone replacement therapy the advantage disappears. They lose muscle mass, bone density, and strength.

People say "It's unfair to women" ignoring that these trans MTF are women.

Moreover, as others have pointed out, even the most elite female athletes struggle with the boys, so *if* we have what is essentially a woman with male attributes that put them on par with male athletes, we have more than just the diversity among women we're contending with. As I've said before, this is only an if and warrants discussion. No one has presented enough evidence for either side other than, "this is how it is" backed up with zero scientific evidence, so I'm not swayed either way. It *looks like their may be an advantage. I'm not convinced there either is or isn't. I still think it's a fair discussion.
