Yeah, you have to cherry pick if you're going to keep your sanity, so why not just cherry pick the nice parts? Granted Jesus wasn't always nice and enlightened, but he said some good things now and then.
I cannot stress this enough, but keep in mind this is not for skeptics but any theist of any religion who may read this. You can find motifs of compassion and giving and kindness in ALL religions worldwide. Every religion has members who point to those motifs to say "see see see" as evidence they are on the right track. Most humans get sold those ideas when they are too young to formulate critical thinking skills.
Humans fail to consider that our ability to be compassionate is in our genes, not in mythology, not in god claims not in religion itself. There are most certainly decent human beings who are kind and non violent in every religion in every nation, but their individual empathy is not collectively handed down to our species by the divine world. It is merely in our evolution.
I love the part of our species evolution that produces compassion and empathy, but I simply do not assign it to magic, I don't assign our ability to be cruel to magic either. Humans do good and we do bad and none of that requires superstition to explain.

Jesus was just a sock puppet for the various people who wrote the NT.

Jesus was just a sock puppet for the various people who wrote the NT.
He was a common name slapped to a legend after the fact by the writers. It certainly was based on a splinter sect of Jews, otherwise Christianity wouldn't exist. But the NT was nothing more than competing authors contributing to what they wanted to be a new movement.
The Hebrews were a splinter sect of the old Canaanite polytheism where Yahweh was a lesser deity under the head God "El" as part of a divine family. Christianity got started, not because humans can make babies without a second set of DNA or preform magic tricks or survive having all their blood drained out of their body, suffer rigor mortis, and magically rise from the dead. It got started because of regional politics and a splinter sect of Jews merely getting tired of the old ways.
But yea, "sock puppet" is a good analogy.

Can you imagine how many of Noah's stupid neighbors walked by and said " Whoa, man. What the fuck is THAT?"

And how did Noah and crew manage to keep the lions, tigers and vultures from eating them (among others). And how, with that very small window, did Noah keep dysentery, stench and so many other diseases from overcoming all the animals not to mention him and the other humans? What happened to all the waste? And on and on.
