Catholic priest jailed for St Joseph's College sex abuse
Father Michael Higginbottom was found guilty of the "cruel and sadistic" abuse of a teenage boy at St Joseph's College in Upholland, Lancashire.
The victim said he was locked in Higginbottom's living quarters and ordered to undress before being sexually assaulted.
He said would be hit with a strap if he did not go to the physics teacher's quarters at allocated times.
During the trial, the court heard previous allegations had been made against Higginbottom in 2007 by another former pupil and the Catholic Church had settled out of court for £35,000.

We like to pick on Christian child abuse in the church, but the truth is that crime not only exists outside the church, but in every nation as a ratio. NO, it does not excuse religion allowing the crime to hide behind religion, just to say that the crime is an unfortunate part of reality, like tornados and vocanos.
Child rape and even adult rape is about power and control, titles can be any title of power, parent, coach, preacher, Rabbi, uncle, baby sitter, teacher ect ect ect. But sex abuse is worldwide unfortunately. China and India don't report sex abuse as widely as the west does. It is easy to single out what is local, but the crime is a matter of human psychology in that the perp is trying to fill their own selfish ego by using their power over another human.

In the Christian religious orbit, however, (as compared to say a secular public school) defenders of the faith will maintain the abuser is nevertheless Saved® as long as (s)he maintained belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ during the assault and will even maintain the victim is nevertheless Damned if they either failed to also so believe, or even questioned their faith during the attack since God chose not to protect them while one of His servants perpetrated the attack.
