So, science sucks then?
October 1, 2010 at 10:01 pm
You always hear from theists, in America at least, about how religion is better than science. Next time a theist gets sick, or grows a tumor, or any of the other scientifically preventable/curable/treatable ailments, I propose they use awesome religious treatments, such as...
Prayer (a worthless favorite)
Bleeding (ya' know, where they stick leeches all over you to get rid of the bad blood.)
Group prayer (proven at least as effective as solo prayer)
Cutting a hole in your skull (to let the demons out)
That's all they've got. hmmm...

I would much rather let them by a hypocrite and then point it out to them, at least them maybe they'll get the point.
Oh wait, no apparently God is responsible for medicine and scientists anyway....

You left out:
Killing (one of the best treatments ever invented!)
Allowing disease to run its course (don't forget not bathing!)
Feeding the sick (after all, what is sickness if you don't feed it?)
Genocide (for the REALLY BAD sicknesses!)
And it would be a shame to neglect exorcism (when's the last time science offered a way to drive demons out?)
I'd say these are pretty good. Darn useful some of them. Especially if you hate someone

If they hate science so much, we should do more than just keep them from recieving medical treatment but also take away all those lightning rods that's currently protecting their churches, take back all computers, TVs, mobiles(cells for the yanks), transports and even light bulbs.
Take away science and you'll go straight back to the dark ages.
They just hate science because science does not support their beliefs.
If they hate science so much, why don't they give back all that science have provided. Hmm?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

You're forgetting that if someone doesn't get well with prayer, "It was all part of God's plan anyway...they're in a better place," so even if prayer isn't effective...it still is...or something.
As an aside, I'd love to know what this "better place" is, because it was always described at temple as the joy you get being in the presence of god and sitting at his feet (does he have feet?) or whatever, and then there are all those "Precious Moments"-esque scenes of white robed people playing harps... That sounds incredibly f'ing boring to me. For one, I already know a few people here on earth whose presence makes me ecstatic, though usually we're not about to do anything remotely considered holy. For another, barring the enjoyment I get out of occasional listening to Loreena McKennitt, my heaven couldn't have harps...I'd have to request Hendrix and Angus Young providing my stringed soundtrack in the clouds. Harps are even more annoying than Kenny G. Who does Satan have on his playlist?
Perhaps more importantly than my personal curiosity though, I would love to know why a god who can whisk someone away to a "better place" wouldn't just cure them of the possibly painful disease that everyone's praying they shake off so that they can enjoy that person's presence a little while longer...except it might be god's will anyway...so I still don't know why they're praying... Dammit, I'm usually good at figuring stuff out and I still can't grasp this one!
