"Cultural Appropriation"
RE: "Cultural Appropriation"
Cmon Shell, you're my last shot at a decent discussion - don't gas out on me just because you didn't take the time to read the thread before you barged in...what was it, like the kool-aid man?  I thought this thing was dead for sure, lol.

Wink

Do you have anything to say about what -they- are referring to, the subject of these 20 pages?  Because..."OFC it's bad, everyone agrees it was bad" is pretty much my pov -and theirs...except, ofc, that everyone hasn't agreed to that, not even in thread.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

It's a good question

If the statue is intended to be used as a decoration then yes . If not then please reframe

To be honest I don't know if statues like that were used purely ceremonially.

Wait what? You've said that if someone has a dream catcher for decoration that's cultural appropriation, but someone buying a statue of Jesus for decoration is fine? Hypocrite much?

I think it depends who's offended by the apropriation.
If it's non white Christians it is apropriation.
For it to be apropriation the people in the culture need to be of a minority and have a colonial relationship with the appropriators.
The rules are quite complicated but I think it can be boiled down to it's bad when white people do it.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I bolded the only part of that you got right.  No wonder you're having trouble identifying those types of transfer they're talking about, huh? Here, let me help you. When the first caliphate spread across the globe, it appropriated the conquered cultures superhard.

Does that help it click in your white skull? Do you understand the type of cultural transfer we're discussing now? It's not the kind where two people hang out together and one of them learns spanish. Get it? Wink

What if a native makes a dream catcher with the image of Jesus on it?

The dreamcatcher issue may have had more bite during the trail of tears - or during the period of re-education.  When people were most definitely profiting off native themed goods whilst simultaneously looking to eradicate native culture -and- populations.

Nothing about dreamatchers, today, fits the subset that is being described by the term.  Nothing about jesus statues does either. It's clearly been the case that we ended up with some of our shit through some ancient (or recent) theft - but that since that time those items have become a part of our shared culture. That's the irony of cultural appropriation.

70 years ago music was intentionally scrubbed of it's blackness and packaged for a white teenage market. None of them, then, ever made as much money off that marketas current performers do now, though eh? The same people who scrubbed that shit probably wouldn't like how it all turned out.

RE: "Cultural Appropriation"
The whole point of cultural appropriation is to keep the cultures and races divided so the left can pit them against each other. It frightens people into not trying out different cultures or borrowing from them.

I created this forum and I'm a white European man. Anyone who uses it who isn't a white European man is appropriating my culture and should be ashamed.
