That one could be the basis for a whole thread.

What are we denying? Fantasy? Hallucination? Wishful-thinking?

I'll take that.

RE: "Free Will" Belief/Disbelief Poll
yes and no are two very generalized answers. That implies absolute free well or absolute determinism. There are a range of positions on the argument.

However freedom of choice and action and free well are not necessarily the same thing, and it's important not to conflate the two. If we are talking about freedom of the will itself, as in your desires, wants, etc, no. In the words of Arthur Schopenhauer, "A man can do what we wants, but not want what he wants". My actions are free in the sense that if my will compels me to type these words, there is nothing prohibiting the action at the moment. I can't help that I wanted to respond to this thread, however.

Quote:Course we're free to choose otherwise that would suggest there was some 'planner' behind everything, which there is no proof for.

OK,it implies (suggests) but does not infer. (conclude) An implication is only part of the reasoning process. Evidence is needed for an inference..

My position is one pf psychological determinism. That neither implies nor infers a planner.

As far as I'm aware, the Free Will/Determinism dichotomy remains, as neither position has been proved or falsified.
