No, but a "thank you" is a small way of saying, hey, I know you've got a crummy job, but I want to let you know I appreciate you being here.
I leave tips all the time. It doesn't relieve me of the obligation to be courteous, nor does it diminish the value of the social lubricants we call "manners". The barrista behind the counter slinging your coffee is a human being just like anyone else. Simply because they're on the clock doesn't make them any less so.
