Coffee shop owner tired of rude customers teaches them a lesson

RE: Coffee shop owner tired of rude customers teaches them a lesson
The only person asking for anything in that scenario is the store owner, asking for money.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

While it might point out that some customers can be less than pleasant it also some across as hyper sensitive.

If asked "what would you like" and I respond in a normal voice "small coffee" how is that being rude???

The rudeness will start when they tell me "that will be five dollars".

When they ask for my money and don't say "please and thank you" is the coffee free?

Stop being over sensitive.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Or better yet, kill 'em with kindness and return courtesy for rudeness. They'll either feel abashed and perhaps be nicer in their next interaction, or be totally pissy at that point. Win/win.

Even at the lowest price that coffee is too expensive.  I'd expect to be charged that amount if I slapped him across the face and called him a twat.

I only ever drink from the vending machine in work or my own instant capachino pouches.

If someone does have the money they can afford to get molested by the prices at inner city coffee shops it's a bit harsh to force them to be polite while they're being molested.

I say please and thanks anyway.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

That sounds like it's a movie quote, but I don't know from which one.

I was raised with manners. I say please and thank you and I teach my kids to do the same. That said, being that I am in the service industry - I am being paid to do my job. Not everyone was raised with manners. Do. Your. Job. You aren't getting paid to demand politeness from anyone. And you never know what someone's day started out as. Maybe they just got some devastating news and aren't in the mood to say please or thank you. Give them what they ordered and move on to the next customer.

The owner of that coffee shop sounds a bit butthurt and at the end of the day, if he has less money in his til than the previous day, then the onus is on him to get over it. His little sign will no doubt affect his bottom line.

Yeah, I bitch because I don't always receive a tip after I've given great service, but such is life. Greet the next customer with a smile and move on with your day.

I can see a parent showing that sign to their kids. "Being nice pays off!" Heinlein made that point in Podkayne of Mars.

Is that really the message you'd want kids to absorb -- being polite can get you a discount on a fucking cup of coffee?

How about, 'Be polite because it's the right thing to do, even if there's nothing in it for you'? As I recall, the Golden Rule didn't come with self-serving caveats.

I've not read the Heinlein book, so perhaps I'm misconstruing your remark. If so, I apologize.
