Georges Lemaître? No, he was a contributor to the model, an important one. The Russian theoretical physicist, Alexander Friedmann, was the first to lay the theoretical framework that our Universe is expanding. And, of course, it was Albert Einstein, with important input and feedback from David Hilbert (who almost beat Einstein in formulating General Relativity), who united gravity with his Special Theory of Relativity from 1905. And, of course, it was Hendrik Lorentz, Hermann Minkowski, Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro (and his student Tullio Levi-Civita), etc., who, along with many others, laid the foundations on which Einstein built.

By the way, Cosmology being "in crises" does not lead to Calvary. As with the anomalous precession of Mercury from the 19th-century, a naturalistic model mat yet be discovered.
