As a whole, you're almost certainly right.

My point -- and it was I who made it originally -- was not an attempt to equate gun-anything to Trump's actions, but to highlight the fact that a group that has expressed a fear of being on a government list is apparently okay with a government list so long as it catalogs their political opponents.

Ok gotcha, yep, you are right Thump, the GOP is not interested in anything but being the sole power. They have used social issues as a distraction for 36 years to get their gullible followers to ignore that really all they want is to protect the big money that keeps corporate welfare going.

Trump this time is a far different monster on top of that. He is power hungry, delusional and or paranoid in much the same way Nixon was about democrats and even Jews. We literally have Nixon 2.0 on meth in office now.

What disturbs me the most about the government gathering voter information for use by an executive power is the fact it sets a bad precedent if allowed to stand. This is especially concerning when you have Dominionists infesting not only the legislative and judicial branch, but also the military. Mike Pence is a Dominionist Vice President. If he somehow gains the executive by becoming POTUS, he will use his power to try to establish a theocracy. I have no doubts about that.

I have more fear of Trump than Pence. Pence has a filter, Trump does not. But in knowing 44 states told him to fuck off, I am sure Pence would not get away with expanding on that. GOP supporters have the social and economic views all wrong, but again, this at least shows even they have their limits.

Trying to establish a theocracy? Let me clue you in about our history. The parties flipped. There was a time prior to the 70s that conservatives wanted no part of government and religion mixing. That all changed with Jerry Falwell back in the 60s when he saw that America was no longer whites only, or at least more of the public wasn't seeing it that way. His family and followers since then courted the GOP and unfortunately successfully convinced Reagan they had the right morals. Ever since then the right has sold the cold war commie bullshit, and even today ignore the fact that religion never left Russia and is till a majority Russian Orthodox Christian.

They forget that Bush Jr once said something like "I looked into his eyes" about Putin basically saying he was a good guy, but ignore McCain still today RIGHTFULLY calling Putin a murder. The same Putin who used Christianity to justify ant LGBT laws in Russia. Used the same bullshit Christian excuse we heard from the right here in America, "We are God's children, we need to keep that away from our youth".

44 states including red states, combined with the fact that younger generations are not buying int to old white Christian bigotry from the far right, Pence can make that attempt, but it wont last.

It's not even about states' rights. It about the right of the individual to vote in secret. This is a direct attack on that right, make no mistake.

Not really.  OFC republicans object to having the feds make a list of citizens names.  As you mentioned earlier, that's their entire brand on federal level gun control.  Obviously, the "fraud commission" was one toke over the line on this one.  What -may- be surprising, to some anyway..is that among those republicans standing up to the request from Kris Kobach...is Kris Kobach.  Sure, in a wheedling semi-compliance sort of way, but still..credit where credit is due.  That Kobach guy knows what an asshole that Kobach guy is better than most of us.

In December of 1941, Gerd von Rundstedt, in charge of Germany's Army Group South in the invasion of the USSR, was planning to retreat about fifty miles to consolidate his lines in preparation for winter offensives from the enemy. When Hitler learned of this, he telegraphed Rundstedt to stay right where he was, "not one foot back".

The Field Marshal telegraphed back that the order was foolish and if he, Hitler, wanted it followed, he would need to find someone else to do it.

It's a shame that Kobach didn't tell the Shitgibbon to go hammer sand up his ass. I guess even six months on the teat has him already hooked?

Korbach probably wrote the request for information in the first place. He's both behind the voter purge of 2016 and the advisor to Drumpfuck on how to purge more US citizens.
