They like their jobs, they want to keep them. Instituting a single term limit across the board would go a ways toward dealing with that, but it still wouldn't eliminate the problem (and can you imagine these assholes voting to fire themselves..it'd be like asking them to take a pay cut, lol - and I mean that straight across both aisles). They'd pander and do things they know aren't in the country's interest to get that one term too.
It's a job interview for a cushy position at a lobbying firm, in addition to all of the other benefits power accrues for itself.
-and in today's episode of criminals who only know the one crime, and are bad at it....
The president has, apparently, rejected the very smart idea of using GOP dominance of the senate to dismiss any potential impeachment proceedings, in favor of a full trial.
.....to clear his good name.....

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the authority to dismiss the impeachment proceedings. Once the House passes articles of impeachment, the Senate is required to hold a trial.
I suspect (but cannot prove) that if the Senate could hold a secret ballot at the trial, Trump would be convicted so fast the air would crackle.

It's not his personal authority or ability that they can engineer this situation, Boru, but the ability of the GOP in majority in the senate to..yes, recognize the trial, but restrict it so that this recognition is...effectively...all that ever comes of it.
I don't think that a secret ballot would help. Every rep would then be suspected as a maga-traitor by their base, and they know that. It's more important to be seen supporting trump than it is to be able to throw him under the bus in secrecy. I think that they're too deep into this, and that just as for the president, the only way out is through. That's why they've been plowing through one crime by committing another, and another, and another, and another.

Ok, so it now appears that Representative Nunes has made at least one (possibly more) trips to Ukraine in an effort to get the Ukrainians to dig up dirt on Joe Biden. If true, wouldn't this make it unethical for him to question or depose witnesses regarding Trump's efforts to get the Ukrainians to dig up dirt on Joe Biden?

Yes. But frankly at this stage being a fully paid up republican is itself unethical, given its position as the party of treason.

Yup. If true, he should recuse himself from the hearings and go sit in the witness box like a good little boy when he is subpoenaed.  Like he's gonna do that.
