It’s Vladimir Putin, fer chrissakes. It’s perfectly acceptable to believe the worst of him, evidence or not. F’rinstance, there’s no ironclad evidence that Putin keeps a box of attack weasels in his office to punish his aides, but I’m not prepared to disbelieve it.

I don't think handing off your best leads to a regime with a vested interest in keeping the truth hidden is a good strategy for getting at the truth.
