Relax. It’s over. There’s nothing left but the bitching.

So, if the Republicans controlled the House, they get to elect themselves a president?  Who the **** decided that was a good idea?

The U.S. election system is held together by string and tape.  There is no way this thing holds together for another century.

Possibly, yes. But in the situation described above, such an outcome would be very unlikely. It hasn’t been the remotest of possibilities until Trump slithered onto the scene.

Congressional counting of the votes is pretty much a formality, as Congress is required by law to accept the vote of the electoral college. I haven’t checked, but I’m sure there have been instances in the past where one party controlled both houses, and the election of a president from the opposition went right ahead.

Supreme Court Rejects Texas Suit Challenging Biden's Victory (msn.com)

The court, in a brief unsigned order, said Texas lacked standing to pursue the case, saying it “has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections.”

The move, coupled with a one-sentence order on Tuesday turning away a similar request from Pennsylvania Republicans, signaled that the court refused to be drawn into President Trump’s losing campaign to overturn the results of the election last month.

I want to know which two of the Supreme Court justices voted in favor of considering that mass of jurisprudential ass twaddle. I'd bet Thomas and Alito.

Supreme Court rejects GOP bid to overturn Biden's victory in Pennsylvania - CBS News

"The application for injunctive relief presented to Justice Alito and by him referred to the Court is denied," the order said. None of the nine justices indicated a dissent.

You’d win that bet. Alito said he would allow the complaint to be filed, but ‘..would grant no other relief’, essentially meaning that he would not dismiss the case out of hand, but would vote against the plaintiffs. Thomas agreed.

Ooohh, you're good !
I would have guessed Thomas, and I guess the next stupidest is Alito ... but I wouldn't have guessed him. I would have said Cavanaugh.
Turns out you were exactly right, ... ALL THREE of Trump's picks, voted against the Texas dung pile.
"Associate Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas said Friday they would have granted Texas' request to make its case, but "would not grant other relief."

Thomas and Alito said only they would have heard it. They would not have granted expedited hearing, or any of the other things they could have done.
Basically it was a 9-0 ruling.

Paxton’s lawsuit was never intended to overturn the election, it was intended to help him secure a pardon. He understands that everything in TrumpWorld is transactional.

New Jersey Rep. Tells Nancy Pelosi Not to Seat 126 Republicans Who Backed 'Malignant' Texas Lawsuit (msn.com)

New Jersey Congressman Bill Pascrell has called on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to refuse to seat 126 Republicans who signed on to a Texas lawsuit aimed at throwing out election results in four states that backed President-elect Joe Biden...

...Pascrell, a Democrat who represents New Jersey's 9th congressional district, invoked Reconstruction Era "safeguards to cleanse from our government ranks any traitors and others that would destroy the union."

In a letter to Pelosi, Pascrell cited Article 1, Section 5 of the Constitution which "gives each chamber of Congress the ultimate authority to decide their membership."

He also invoked the 14th Amendment, passed in the wake of Southern secession and the Civil War. Section 3 of the amendment forbids anyone from holding office in federal or state government who "having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."
