Religion V Education

Religion V Education
The more uneducated and ignorant a society, the more likely it is to be religious. The more educated and knowledgeable a society, the more likely it is to be non-religious.

Why is this?

Because religion is a replacement for real facts.
The more real facts are known the less of a gap there is for theistic explainations, so less religion.

Because religion is ignorance pretending to be otherwise. Secular education dispels the ignorance.

God exists only in the unknown. The more we know, the less places god can hide.
It's been that way for centuries.

Reason and education removes ignorance.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Why do you think knowledge was the forbidden fruit?

Because relying on "Faith" is not a good way to go about knowing things.

RE: Religion V Education
Religion is a by-product of ignorance, hence the less ignorant (by having more education), the less religious. IMHO ignorance is a far worse deal than religion as its the land where religion flourishes.

There are some theists however, that do get smarter, but then pride gives them pause because they have already committed to religion.
