Sometimes I find it difficult to differentiate between stupidity and insanity. I know that someone who isn't very curious isn't interested in learning is stupid, and someone who hears voices that don't exist is insane. But what about someone who is 100% sure that aliens live among us? That person may be insane, because the belief is totally detached from reality, or stupid, because that person didn't think things through.

Stupid has a simplistic view of reality, delusional (insane?) has an unrealistic view of reality.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

So in my example is insanity.

Delusional yes, insane is determined by the society in which the person resides, so not necessarily.

Depends what you mean by "atheism", as there are different types.
For example some atheists like Jesus as a man, but they don't go to church and haven't been baptised or any of that razzmattaz.
That's fine, so if your dad asks you if you're an atheist you can reply "Well, I like Jesus", and I'm sure he'd be happy with that reply.
After all, there's nothing to dislike about Jesus is there? He was a rebel and revolutionary and blew the snooty priests out of the water, so he's a great role model for us all..Smile-
Below- he said to the priests-
"You're full of shit!" (Matt 23:27)

Jesus also said that he didn't came to bring peace, but a sword, that he will make family members turn against each oder. When a non jewish woman asked Jesus to heal her daughter, he called that woman a dog.
There are many examples like that in the Bible, so I personally don't like Jesus, not even as a fictional character.

Personally I guess all prophets -including Jesus peace be upon him- to be more human than followers of the religion seem to advertise.
Jesus was man most of all; just like all of us.

But spirits are locked from our world; obsession about it -especially if it's holywood style- is just quite insane. And points to psychological complexes the believer has (like not being able to get over a loved one?) not being able to erase the shock.

And a faith tailored to make people sleep at night is indeed an answer some people seek.

From my experience, parents only want the best for their children.
Your dad is only trying to get you to see things the same way he sees them. Sure, there are tons of fallacies in his reasoning, but that comes with the theist territory.
Just let him have his peace, while you retain your own.

If you find that you can have a civilized discussion, go at it.... never raising voices, nor insulting anyone involved. Try to address each point of what he says that you see as a fallacy. He''s human, maybe he'll understand the error in reasoning... maybe not... if not, let it go, let him be...

1- Jesus was simply letting people know that he's got their backs if they send their families ballistic by following him instead of the boring old traditional religions..Smile
2- That woman was a Canaanite, a nasty heathen tribe so Jesus briefly lost his temper and said "On yer bike missus",  but instantly regretted it and decided to cure her daughter like she wanted. Huh he tries to be nice but you still don't like him..

The part that says he is God is the made up tale; though.
If he was considered to be a normal man, things would make more  sense.
