pabsta Wrote:[li] … that studies have been performed confirming that there is no place on earth where religion hasn't been practiced? Why do people have this built-in instinct?[/li]

I'm pretty sure there are uninhabited spots where religion hasn't been practiced. Just sayin'.

However, it is true that for most of our history, when presented with a choice between a magical explanation for something and admitting we don't know; we have a propensity for picking the magical option. Also, we demonstrably have a tendency to ascribe agency to undirected phenomena. Likely evolution favored people who thought a rustle in the grass was a tiger over people who wanted to make sure. Now that tigers aren't such a big threat, the value of jumping to the conclusion of agency is considerably reduced. And rational skepticism requires a mental toolbox for critical analysis that has taken us centuries to devise and wasn't available to the average, or even most of the most highly educated people 3,000 years ago. Of course most, if not all, ancient cultures were convinced of magic and supernatural beings.

There seem to be some exceptions. but those notwithstanding; we have innate moral sentiments regarding empathy, fairness, and reciprocity; so we start with some 'moral grammar' built in (most of us, anyway). Other social primates have these inborn features too. Turns out they help in the success of a social species. And by the time a child goes to school, instruction about what they are and are not allowed to do has rarely been absent from their tutelage up until kindergarten.

pabsta Wrote:[li] … that every person instinctively begs God for help when death appears imminent, whether they previously learned to do this or not?[/li]

False.

pabsta Wrote:[li] … that men and women just happen to be created with a built in desire for one another?[/li]

It would be hard for us to have evolved without that being the case sufficient to ensure reproductive success, wouldn't it?

pabsta Wrote:[li] … that the human brain, a 3 pound piece of tissue, is the most complex computer found on the planet?[/li]

A sperm whale's brain is about 18 pounds. Why are you so sure that IT isn't the most complex computer found on the planet?

This god the OP keeps yammering about needs to hire better representation, ASAP. If anything, this thread is even more insipid than the Fatima thread.

pabsta Wrote:[li] … that the human heart can maintain life for over 100 years with its own mysterious source of energy?[/li]

We actually know where the energy that allows our hearts to pump comes from, and it's not even that mysterious (see how long your heart pumps when you've been deprived of nourishment, and especially, oxygen).

pabsta Wrote:[li] … that of the countless functions of the human body, if any of them were omitted or occurred in a different order, it would wipe out humanity?[/li]

We wouldn't even have evolved into existence in the first place with problems like that. That's the kind of thing natural selection weeds out pretty efficiently.

pabsta Wrote:[li]… that many atheists try to assert there is no God due to deaths in past wars, while they neglect to acknowledge the fact that 4.5 million people die of natural causes across the globe every MONTH (55 million per year)?[/li]

Um, deaths in past wars are not a reason that God doesn't exist. Deaths in religiously motivated wars are a pretty good argument against being religious though. And if God is real, God is responsible for all deaths from natural causes. At least with war deaths, we're killing each other, not being personally taken out by the omnipotent creator and sustainer of the universe.

pabsta Wrote:[li]… that atheists will become angry when these facts are pointed out in this forum post? This anger obviously stems from the atheist continuously fighting his own conscience as it repeatedly points out all of these facts.[/li]

You have quite a peculiar idea of what constitutes a fact.

pabsta Wrote:Is all the above a coincidence? Clearly not, but rather it is proof for a Divine Creator.

And quite a peculiar notion of 'coincidence' and 'proof', too.

Not at all.  You're just looking at it after the fact.  Of course whatever conditions were needed would have been in place, otherwise we wouldn't be here.  Things are the way they are, it would be narcissistic as hell to think it is all for little old us.

No, you retarded, shit-covered fuck-stick, the anger comes from you insulting our intelligence with this bullshit as if you expect anyone with functioning mental faculties to exercise the same lack of examination of the big picture as you, from you ignoring the fact that your trash has been debunked innumerable times before and yet you're still either stupidly or dishonestly continuing to espouse it which makes us have to hear it more times than we care to, up to the point where it makes us fucking nauseous, and from you wanting to push some kind of agenda or other absolute pigswill on us or worse, people who are actually gullible enough to believe your horseshit.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

---

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.

RE: Isn't it funny...
I accept evolution, but I do think God was behind it and planned for things to line up so perfectly the way they did.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
