No.  I doubt very many Confederate soldiers were against slavery at all.  I'm saying, and their own diaries state, that slavery isn't the reason very many of them fought against the invading Union soldiers.

As far as I'm concerned, the statues SHOULD stay up.  Just because the South had the wrong view on slavery doesn't mean that great men weren't great men, or that they weren't an important part of American history.

I think there's an expectation among all of them, that nobody is really going to be hurt too badly. But there are some really dangerous people out there. And they are going to start showing up to these things and murdering lots of folks.

Go ahead. Confront away. First off, no where did I say that the Charlottesville riots by white supremacists was in any way justified. It's as you suggest, they're domestic terrorists and the guy who ran his car into a crowd of protestors, killing one and injuring 19 others is not only a homegrown terrorist but is in fact a murderer as well. If they have the death penalty in Virginia, he should get it.
As far as BLM they're far from being a peaceful group. Especially when news footage and other videos show their protests with chants of, "What do we want? Dead Cops!" and, "Pigs in a blanket fry'em like bacon!". In the wake of those protests they've stirred up a hostile environment against police officers where some have been targeted and murdered. So, however peaceful BLM claims to be, actual video footage shows otherwise.
As far as nobody dying in the Berkeley riots, good thing nobody was in the buildings or cars they torched, huh.

This song reflects some of the attitudes of the confederacy c June 1861, the last historical event mentioned was the secession of Tennessee which happened on June 8.  Note that there is no mention of First Manassas which occurred on July 21, 1861 and would certainly have merited a verse or two had it happened when this version was written.  These were performance pieces of course as there was no recording at the time.  The battle cry is "southern rights" which could mean whatever one wanted it to mean, I suppose.  But they don't talk about slavery or blacks at all.






On the other side of the Mason-Dixon line the Northerners were singing this little ditty which can be dated to sometime between May, 1861 and May, 1863 by its reference to the confederate Stars and Bars flag which was in use at that time.  Judging by the trumpeting of "10,000 volunteers" it is probably closer to the beginning of that period than the end as the Union had gotten its ass kicked several times prior to May, 1863 and the enthusiasm for the war was definitely on a downward spiral.

Note that even here, the northerners do not talk of slavery or blacks but merely crushing the rebellion and preserving the union.







The first tune is a lot catchier.  The north was definitely behind in the musical department.

I love when Atheist brings up berkely while ignoring the fact a group of Nazi sympathizers invited  Milo and missing the part where Milo supporters had weapons and antagonized the protesters. And that many were armed . This isn't a case of a group of people angry about a speaker this was about a group liked to hate groups legitimizing a hate monger . In a educational institution a place such garbage has no place.


As for BLM they have done more good then bad and they do have official sites none of which preach cop killing .
