I actually met someone once who thought lighting came from god. I forgot to ask him which god. I was mainly just perplexes that a middle aged man would think something like that. I told him he must have failed his physical science class.

There are just way too many of these folks walking around. Superstitious thinking and beliefs cause problems. I came up with a saying: "Unfounded claims to truth, when acted upon, have consequences." Like those idiots in a church in North Carolina that tried to beat the gay out of their parishioners because they were so-called "possessed by demons." They are on trial now for physical abuse and assault charges.

The Bible doesn't give an indication that this eclipse will contain a sign from God, it could be possible, we'll have to wait and see, we'll know soon enough. I believe that Billy's daughter was referring to the church of America not the nation as a whole. She understands that God works with His people and expects us to deliver His message to others. She said as much in the article when she stated, "we should repent and share the gospel with our neighbors."

I was listening to NPR and heard them saying that Columbus used the Europeans' eclipse prediction method to trick the natives in the new world into continuing to feed and serve him until reinforcements from Europe arrived, threatening that he would make the sun vanish, and then went where no one could see him when the eclipse hit. The natives then did everything he asked. So on the occasion when an old-timey shaman or mystic managed to get something right, that's all they needed to trick entire civilizations into buying their shit.

That is the way of Christianity. Deceiving others into their deception.

What Gawdzilla said.  The moment anyone on the planet provides actual proof of any of these theistic miracle fables, the game is over. No more preachers needed.  But even if you prove the existence of a bright celestial event, you don't prove Jesus existed.  So we still need proof of God's existence, proof of Yeshua/Issa/Yasu's existence AND he needs to show up, preferably on live TV.  Oh yeah, and he'd have to do something that hasn't been faked - walking across a swimming pool has been done to death.

Yeah, that's horrible. Personally I prefer the time the fire 'n' brimstone preacher in Ohio was giving his sermon with a thunderstorm raging outside, and he answered the thunder by asking what else "God" wanted to say. Then the church was hit by lightning and burned to the ground.
