I don't see how Neo's quote indicates that he is a white supremacist. He's making a point about taking down any statue of historical significance. You may disagree with that, but this does not make him a white supremacist.

It's about context. MLK was not campaigning for adultery. R.E. Lee was leading armies defending chatteldom; that was the notable achievement of his life. Not every context, and not every personage, is equally good. Germany has exactly zero statues of Hitler, but somehow they manage to remember their own history. How's that work?

You want historical significance? Put these statues in a museum ... and provide context for those who are otherwise deaf to it. Why are conservatives so afraid of museums?

I understand what you are saying and it makes sense. Honestly, I personally don't have a strong opinion on these statues either way. I guess the fairest thing to do would be to let the people of the city itself decide. My response was only to say that Neo's opinion on this particular issue with historical statues doesn't make him a supremacist sympathizer, even if it is the same opinion as the supremacist themselves.

She didn't say he's a white supremacist.  She said he was saying the same things they say.

I figured she insinuated as much when she followed up with "now we know who you really are". Having the same opinion about historic statues as those supremacists did, does not make the person a supremacist themselves, or a sympathizer of white supremacy. But if that's not what she meant, then my apologies.

That is an indication that he, if not a supremacist with the guts to fly a swaztaka himself, is at least one who would think nothing of casually putting his own foot down on the neck of the down trodden that more brutal supremacists had knocked down to the ground for him.

Yeah, it's important to note that these statues are celebrating seditious traitors. The majority were also put up during the Jim Crow era in order to remind the black populace of its place in society.

It's interesting to me that we gleefully tear down the symbols of oppression abroad (remember how hot and bothered conservatives got when we toppled some statues of Saddam Hussein in Iraq?), yet tut-tut when it's time to do it here.

At best, these statues should be in a museum as part of an exhibit of how bad we can be. As a way to remember and to affirm we're supposed to be better than that. But in modern, public spaces? Fuck that noise.

There's a specific 10 Commandments monument on a church property I drive by on occasion. Dammit, I'm going to stop and photograph it and MAKE FUCKING SURE that church has the CORRECT version (that their home franchise office approved) on display, and if they don't, I'm going to see if I can get them IN TROUBLE.
