Well, some guy said it, so it must be true.  Dodgy

It's called "thinking for yourself," and it's not all that hard.

The trucker could have stopped his rig well before he reached the water, thrown on his flashers and waited that mess out. There was absolutely no need for him to continue driving through that and anyone with a CDL should be smart enough to know better (unless they drive for SWIFT, then they really are that stupid).

Glad the driver got help, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. He had to have known the weather conditions, given the area and how we all have access to knowing what the weather will be. He took that chance anyway. Not gonna call him stupid, but not gonna call him smart either.

No and again this misses two points.

No, I'm not missing any points. See below.

Quote:This assumes that he drove into standing water. Yes people do get stupid and do that, but we don' know that in this case solely based on that video. Some people can be on perfectly dry land then suddenly get surrounded by water because of a flash flood. We simply do not know based on that video how long he had been sitting in that truck.

You are correct that all that is there is the video. So we can literally infer anything we want to about it... which brings me to my next response to the following:

Quote:SECONDLY, still would not mater to me if people are correct and he did drive into standing water, that is still no excuse to be a dick to a frightened person. If he had not been frightened he wouldn't have stayed in the vehicle. I don't care what mistake anyone thinks he made nobody deserves to be treated like that in their moment of need. The reporter and the rescuers STILL did the right thing.

1 - Please provide some sort of proof where any one here, commenting in this here forum, personally made statements to that individual, causing him to become frightened. I can guarantee you that not a single person in THIS thread, personally said anything to THAT individual to actually "frighten" him. So your point there is moot and that's a really heavy accusation to be making to folks just trying to have a discussion, not an argument.

2 - No one here is being a dick. Expressing a viewpoint about a situation where the participants in the actual situation are not even privy to the conversation about them, isn't necessarily being a dick. It's expressing a viewpoint. Nothing more and nothing less.

3 - No one here is "treating" him in any particular fashion - negative or otherwise.. You are indeed letting opinions and viewpoints affect you. They aren't directly affecting the driver of that truck. We are merely pointing out, via discussion, the possibilities of what may have happened to get him into that mess to begin with. I certainly don't know for sure. GS certainly doesn't know for sure and neither does anyone else, but we are having an open discussion in a forum designed for discussions to happen.

4 - If you're going to get all angry because not everyone agrees with you 100% then there is a problem with your thinking, not ours. I already stated that I understood where not only GS was coming from but where you were coming from as well.  Why do I, and others here, have to suddenly get called dicks and be accused of frightening a man simply because we also see the other side of things? That's not cool. For fucks sake - I'm pretty darn sure the guy doesn't even know this thread exists, let alone this place, and if he did, I'm pretty sure he probably doesn't give two fucks about what some internet strangers think of him.

5 - None of us were physically there to know if he did anything to put himself in that position or not. By the same token, he could just as much have been innocently on dry land when a flash flood happened. No. One. Knows. But. Him. That's what the discussion is centered around. And you know what? That's okay. It's okay to speculate. At the end of the day, he was saved. He's alive and that's all that's really important. But the discussion is a good one to have, nonetheless. If you didn't want to have any such discussion, why did you bother to bring it up in the first place?

And yes - it was good that the reporter and the rescuers did the right thing. Risking their own lives for an individual stuck in water was a good thing.

I like you Brian. You've always made good, well thought out and passionate posts but here as of late, I sense a lot of anger coming from you in nearly every post you make. I don't know what is going on in your personal life, and really, it's none of my business, but can I gently suggest, without you getting pissed, maybe speaking to someone about whatever it is that you seem to be having a rough time with? You just seem so angry all the time and I'm really starting to get worried about you. This isn't healthy for you.

And FWIW - the jab at SWIFT drivers was simply a joke. If you don't get the reference, my apologies. I didn't see whether or not he even drove for SWIFT, but I was attempting to make a funny, relatable comment, which apparently backfired with you. SWIFT trucking company, to many other trucking companies, stands for Sure Wish I Finished Training. It's a play on their name because a great many (not all) of their drivers get involved in a lot of accidents and literally do things that could have easily been avoided. My ex used to pull for a trucking company in Maryland and I went with him OTR many times and witnessed the crazy for myself.

Clap This is why I pretty much ignore his posts. I contend that the raving started a lot earlier than you may be thinking. Get help, indeed.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
