Poll: Is there any aspect/type of god you as an atheist would be happy to discover existed?
This poll is closed.
The biblical god in all his tyrannical, OT bad-assedness.

Just the loving hippy of the NT.

One that is concerned with human conduct and hands out eternal bliss or torture in a life-exit interview.

One that listens to 'prayers' or reads your mind and chooses life events with your development in mind; the 'world' for this sort of god is a kind of theater with no independent or necessary existence.

An all-powerful one that created everything from nothing just the way it is on purpose but has covered his tracks to make natural causes more plausible.

Not all-powerful, one possessed of some creative powers but not limitless, creating some forms but all from pre-existing substrata, not from 'nothing'.

One that is drastically older (approaching eternality?) and has seen it all but relates to you-as-consciousness as a kind of benevolent big brother and values your companionship without judgements or need for your worship.

I'd like to ask my fellow atheists if they would be happy to learn there was a god.

That was a hint that we shouldn't hijack his thread.

So... I have thoughts but will keep them to myself.

For now.

I have thoughts too, and the court order says I've got to keep them to myself.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I can't possibly comment. Because I didn't understand a word of that.

Am I really the only person who would be tickled by the thought of OT douche-god rampaging all over the place, leveling cities and turning nagging wives into salt and whatnot?  Who would honestly want to find out, in one go, that there -are- gods..but they're giant ineffectual hippies? That's like finding a turd at the bottom of your ice cream cone.

"Heres a genie. Yes, they exist. Except they don't grants wishes, his name is Steve, and he's from Queens."
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

But of course, if there is a god, he/she/it will get blamed for most of the ideas and problems man created for themselves. As if god is suppose to be a babysitter. Making sure you play fair and that your life is flowers and roses.

Sorry, dude, but this is the type of thing theists say that make me think of their beliefs as vapid and ridiculous.
They claim their god is their creator, their father. As a parent, fuck yes I am a babysitter. Fuck yes, if I saw my child was being raped, starved, deprived, bombed, you name it... I'd fucking step in. "Oh, Jack, but sooner or later you'd have to let them make their own way. Free will and shit." Bullshit.

1. Why? Why would I? Because I'm human and one day I won't be there to help them out of trouble. Right? Their god is supposedly all powerful. He supposedly will always be there. I'd save my kids over and over again if I could.
2. Flowers and roses? So a god can't be bothered to cure that little girl's brain cancer, or the kid's HIV, or feed those starving children, or stop that pedo from assaulting his daughter night after night because fuck you humans, I'm no babysitter, figure it out yourselves, your life can't be just roses.

What's a god good for then? If that's what love is, fuck love. Good thing some humans (real humans) know love in a whole different light and would treat others way different than a powerful being who can do something, but refuses to do it, or really actually can't, but people worship it anyway.

Is this what you would think a god would be good for? To intervene every time something goes wrong with life? Your existence is not enough?

I'm currently dealing with someone who is suffering. If a god existed i would never blame him/her/it for their suffering. Their existence is a great blessing despite the pain they're enduring. I would feel it would be irresponsible of me to start looking for someone to blame for everything that goes wrong in this world.

Yes. A god would be good for that. If a god existed, no, an existence full of suffering would not be enough. If a god existed, I most certainly would point my finger at it. I deal with people suffering every day. It's my job. Lol funny. I help people for a living. I help them find shelter. I help feed them. I help them catch their abusers. I no longer do the counseling part (because I have suffered myself and it's hard), but I make sure they get the counseling they need. I hope I can help their existence be a tiny bit smoother. I'm just human, though. If I had powers, and I did shit about it, I'd expect fingers pointed at me.

I hang out with nerds too much, so: "With great power comes great responsibility."

But if people wanna worship for free, that's on them. Lol I'll just agree to disagree, too.

But you do. You help people. You don't see the power in that?

Exactly. And we are far more powerful than we think. If there is a creator out there that has given us such powers, the ability to create and destroy, then we need to be responsible on how we use it. We have the ability to change the world for the better or worse. Its up to us. The direction of this planet is our responsibility, its our home. You don't need to constantly depend on some superhero to fix everything for you. Even if one exists.

I still disagree. There are too many ways in which we have zero power. Especially children. Look... I don't believe a god exists anyway, so it's easy for me to just accept that we won't agree on this.
