Assholes like 45 do not give one fuck about you and you are a fucking fool if you think he does. Billionaires will not end up on cat food if they pay more in taxes. Only a fucking asshole would blackmail society when they don't get everything they want.

Nope sorry, the Texas working class whom have lost their homes, THEY NEED THE HELP, not a selfish fucking dick like 45. We've done the "deregulation" and "don't tax the rich" since Reagan. Trickle down DOES NOT WORK.

How could the chemical plant know? FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY DUMBASS! Anyone who has taken basic chemistry knows certain chemicals when left alone can become volatile and unstable. Don't hand me any bullshit that they couldn't have come up with an emergency plan long ago.

Redundancy in any plan reduces risk and increases safety. But you fucking dumbass, even if I agreed with you that they had no way of knowing WHICH IS BULLSHIT, what you keep missing is that they wont do anything for the future to prevent it again. The long term history of the GOP is to simply rewrite laws to favor the business and not public safety.

The GOP wont fix this with future building codes. They will simply rewrite laws to prevent lawsuits and allow for more deregulation which will lead to more harm.

And the lack of regulation isn't just about chemical companies or oil companies. This fucking attitude allowed Wells Fargo to commit fraud on it's clients with absolutely no accountability to the CEO or board besides a fine. That fucking asshole also said, "I didn't know".

BULL FUCKING SHIT..... They know but don't care.

This isn't about 1 industry, this is about the collective corporate billionaire climate. Lack of watchdogs lead to the great depression. Lack of watchdogs lead to Bush's triple whammy Car/Housing/Bank crash. The top simply has no real skin in the game, no punishment for when they fuck up. Not listening to scientist also kept led in gas and paint because some greedy assholes cared more about profit. Just like Wells Fargo's CEO didn't give one fuck about their client's having to deal with credit problems. GREED.

Good talk coach. You go with that.

Damned fucking right I will go with that. I love how you want that so badly to be viewed negatively. Can I make you a burger with my feces as a topping since you hate regulations?

And guess what idiot, seat belt mandates didn't kill the auto industry.

Texas' war on regulations is the reason that a lot of these plants are there in the first place.  On the Rachel Maddow show just last night they were recounting how the company had just yesterday refused to release a report about what chemicals were stored at the plant.   Rachel was waiting for the plant to blow up.  I know what her lead tonight will be!

Anyone remember when a fertilizer plant blew up in West, Texas?  Know what the governor's response to that was?  They dropped the requirement that the listing of stored chemicals on the site be made available to the public!

At some point you just have to say, Fuck Texas.

I disagree. The earthquake in Japan that caused the Tsunami was also "rare". But that still does not negate all the regular things between that are adding up over time. It is adding up over time. It still remains that our species pumping out too much CO2 is creating more weather hyper activity and more frequency and more extremes.

Nobody is saying, "lets ban cars because people have accidents", but we still try to improve that technology. The GOP wants to stick with "let the rich do whatever they want".

And the mayor of Houston made a great point, while houses are not perfect, trying to evacuate 6 million people at once would clog the highways in cars they would be far more at risk in during the brunt of a storm. I think it is far better policy to work long term on materials that are wind resistant and flood proof, and have local sanctuaries to prevent clogging of highways. Not to mention just because some have the means and money to leave, does not mean everyone does.

"Evacuate" is an over simplification. Especially when you have a GOP that guts funding for everything.

Not negative. Just saying. Everyone is entitled to their own view and everyone is entitled to disagree. How you handle that disagreement is up to you.

Some people are built for surrender, others of us are built for fighting. You don't live here, and you're not in the scrum. Enjoy Arizona, and hopefully you have the energy and guts to change things there, too.

Or maybe not.

Houston is experiencing its third '500-year' flood in 3 years. How is that possible?

All I'm saying is they had roughly 2 years to prepare for something like this.

They didn't.

But has that facility flooded before? If they had, I'd bet they'd have done more. I have a two guys that I was in the military with that now work for DuPont at chemical facilities. The shit they have to go through is insane.

I have a company with a lot of chemicals and there are a shit ton of hoops that have to be jumped through that are redundant and I think are too much. If we had a 3.0 earthquake, we'd be okay. If we had an 8.0 earthquake, we'd be Dicked. The chances that we would is slim to none, but.... what if we had a 3.0 earthquake and then a tornado? I'm not going to prepare for that. No one would.

That company has insurance, but they also now have to hire attorneys outside of their corporate attorneys, production down time that for a plant like that has to be hundreds of thousands of dollars per day, lost customer contracts that aren't going to be met, millions in clean up cost probably, a corporate black eye, easy Pickens for their competitors to swoop in and snag customers under a new contract, etc etc etc.

People that think companies go in all whilly nilly and don't care at all, clearly didn't earn their high school diploma and should probably just give it back. There are share holders/owners for that company sitting around at this very moment concerned about the hundreds of millions being lost because no one ever guessed that it was possible.

People and companies learn from mistakes. Sometimes that's the only way you can learn and sometimes that's the best way to learn. I bet that company won't make the same mistake again though.

I don't follow? Your saying they didn't know about the other 2 massive floods? Or they don't know that if flooding happens nearby repeatedly it could be them next time? It's not just that the damage to the business, it's the pollution, too.
