The power supply is a transformer, and under the right circumstances it can catch fire. Sounds like yours is poorly-insulated. I'd be willing to bet that you could get a replacement that is better-insulated, if it's important to you. I wouldn't worry about it, m'self.

I had it tested at the store I bought it from and they said it was fine and that it passed all the tests. I read some tips at reducing overheating on howtogeek.com and he suggested running the processor at 95% power max instead of 100% and now it doesn't even get overly hot after hours
