My Biggest Criticism Of My Own Country (Canada)

Two things come to mind

1. We need to stop defining ourselves by who were not . For our entire history we have tried simply not being American (The whole point of confederation at least for the colonies was not being taken over by America ) Or not being British ( A long project of having power over our own affairs ) .On one hand this has given us a degree of cultural flexibility having no hard and fast notion of Canadianism. And is likely a reason extremism has not faired as well here as elsewhere  . On the other it's caused national  divisions that have yet to fully set .

2. We need to settle the conflict of native and non native . Since confederation one government after another have treated natives as the hot potato no one wants to deal with. Or they appeal to the paternal and sometimes outright racist idea's in the crown agreements . It's time to sit down and  hammer out new agreements and accords that fit 21st century Canada .

As for #1 (not being American).  At this point in time I would own that shit proudly.

Remember when I walked through Grasslands national park . Ancient prairie , Pronghorns , Wild Turkeys .

I don't recall encountering any native peoples. Our trip was in the 70s. Everyone was super nice. Dad was perpetually confused by purchasing gas by the liter. Border crossing (either way) was uneventful. Went to International Peace Gardens too.

Saskatoon berries are yummy. They seemed to be everywhere we went.

My biggest complaint about Canada is it makes for an expensive weekend getaway. Still going.
