The Archdiocese of New York wants to take out a $100 million mortgage on one of its prized real estate possessions to fund a compensation program for victims of clergy sexual abuse.

There was recently intriguing article on theguardian titled "Catholicism has done more harm to Australia than Islam. Where's the outrage?"

Main point is:
If we are going on a body count the Catholic clergy has done more harm to more Australians than extremist Muslims. More than 4,000 reports of sexual abuse at the hands of Catholic church made to the royal commission. God knows how many more are unreported. Innocent Australian children and young people are the victims. Lives have been ruined: suicides and mental illness, broken families, grotesque physical injury.
Why isn’t the outrage machine demanding the Catholic prime minister condemn this horrendous and sustained attack on Australians every time the commission hears from another victim of Catholic abuse?

Pope Francis suggests 'better to be atheist than hypocritical Catholic'

"There are those who say 'I am very Catholic, I always go to Mass, I belong to this and that association'," the head of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic Church said, according to a Vatican Radio transcript.

He said that some of these people should also say "'my life is not Christian, I don't pay my employees proper salaries, I exploit people, I do dirty business, I launder money, (I lead) a double life'."

It isn't only catholicks who are full of shit.  All religious assholes are guilty of that.

He talks about it being better to be atheist than hypocritical catlick, yet I don't see him reinstituting the method that was there for formally leaving the church.

Irish abuse survivor Marie Collins on Wednesday accused the Vatican of “shameful” resistance to fighting clerical sex abuse in the Catholic Church as she resigned from a key panel set up by Pope Francis to deal with the issue.
Ms Collins’ shock resignation is a huge setback for the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors which was set up by the pope in 2013 to counter abuse in the church.
“There are people in the Vatican who do not want to change or understand the need to change,” Ms Collins told The Telegraph in a telephone interview. “I can’t stick with it any more. They are not co-operating with the commission.”
