THE Catholic Church is facing yet another abuse scandal after a series of Irish priests were accused of raping and abusing young children and teenagers while working as missionaries in Africa over the past three decades.

Q. How many pervert priests does it take to rape a child?

A. At least seven. One to do it and two monsignors, two bishops, a cardinal and a pope to cover it up.

Belgium's bishops have agreed to compensate church sex-abuse victims, saying that they are "conscious of their moral responsibility and the expectations of society," the Belga news agency reported Monday.

"They are determined to restore the victims' dignity and to pay them the damages they may need," the bishops said in a statement.

The sex abuse scandal that has affected church communities around the world rocked Belgium last year, when an internal Catholic Church committee revealed that it had received complaints from 327 men and 161 women, with alleged victims being as young as 2 years old.

They'll be passing the collection basket around a few extra times each Sunday to come up with the cash for this one!

For the congregation of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Mesa, Friday's suspension of its leader on allegations of sexual misconduct was like cutting open scars that had just healed.

The Diocese of Phoenix suspended Father Jack Spaulding for a 25-year-old case involving alleged sexual misconduct, which follows the 2004 suspension of the church's former priest, Monsignor Dale Fushek, on similar accusations. Fushek was later excommunicated.

The Vatican issued its annual financial report saying it made a profit of €9.85 million ($A13.4 million) in 2010 following a loss of €4.01 million a year earlier and losses in 2007 and 2008. Revenue was €245.2 million against expenses of €235.35 million.

Right up there with the rest of the money grubbing corporate whores.

I was still a member of the Catholic Church when this stuff started, and I live in Ireland. And to think - I used to be an Altar Girl! Thankfully, no priest ever tried any of that on me. It's the fact that when this shit did start, what did they do? How did they choose to console families? A stupid blind long-winding letter, that bascially said, Oh, it's a shame this has happened. What a pity, but no, actually, those priests that did this have repented and are still allowed to continue being priests. Which was bascially the gist of the sermons for a couple of weeks afterwards as well. The fact that it's not only in Ireland but all over the place gives you food for thought.
