The Catholic Church is still waging war on science and reality in general. In other words, they are meddling in something that they know nothing about—like complete idiots.

They see surrogacy exclusively as a commercial transaction and moral failing, ignoring that intended parents often turn to surrogacy due to severe medical conditions. They are also completely oblivious to altruistic surrogacy (where a surrogate receives no financial compensation beyond medical expenses), which is legally regulated and non-commercial in several countries.

Then they equate international surrogacy to human trafficking without any knowledge that this kind of surrogacy is heavily regulated by laws.

And then the nonsense that zygotes with genetic disorders who don't get to be implanted are babies being murdered in the name of eugenics is pathetic. These bishops should really get some wives and make them pregnant because then they'll learn so much about pregnancy, like that medical screening and prenatal testing occur in standard pregnancies as well.

And also, what's with the persistent defining of family strictly through marital/biological terms? "Procreation must only occur within a traditional marital relationship." Haven't these people heard of single parents, infertile couples, and LGBTQ+ families?

The Catholic Church in Poland Takes a Stand on Surrogacy

In a statement issued on August 28, the Bioethics Expert Team of the Polish Bishops’ Conference described surrogacy as “gravely immoral” and called for decisive action to prevent Polish citizens from using the practice, whether at home or abroad.

The bishops’ objection goes far beyond the legal status of surrogacy. Their central concern is that the arrangement risks transforming both motherhood and childhood into objects of a contractual transaction.

The statement, issued on behalf of the bioethics panel by Auxiliary Bishop Józef Wróbel of Lublin, raises particular concern about the dignity of the child, the exploitation of economically vulnerable women and the possibility that international surrogacy arrangements may acquire characteristics comparable to human trafficking.

The Polish episcopate also warns that the promises often made by the surrogacy industry concerning the delivery of a healthy child can create pressure for the elimination of unborn children diagnosed with genetic or developmental disorders. The bishops describe such a prospect as a particularly grave consequence of a system in which the expectations of commissioning adults may come into conflict with the unconditional dignity of the child.

Their argument also focuses on the position of women who agree to carry children for others. Formal consent, the statement insists, does not automatically remove the ethical problem when economic circumstances can influence a woman’s decision and her reproductive capacity becomes the subject of a commercial arrangement.

The bishops therefore reaffirm the Catholic Church’s longstanding teaching that surrogacy is incompatible with Christian moral principles. Catholic teaching holds that the deliberate separation of procreation from the marital relationship, particularly through the intervention of third parties, raises fundamental questions about the rights of children and the meaning of parenthood.

For the Polish bishops, the child cannot be understood as the object of a right or a service that can be obtained through a contract. Parenthood, they argue, cannot be reduced to a commercial relationship between biological, gestational and commissioning parties.

The episcopate has called on Poland’s authorities to act quickly to prevent citizens from resorting to surrogacy and to stop companies offering such services from operating in the country.

Police are searching for two thieves accused of cutting down and stealing a $50,000 bronze statue of Jesus from a Catholic church in Orange County.

The theft occurred around 2 a.m. Aug. 30 at Christ Our Savior Catholic Church, located at 2000 W. Alton Ave. in Santa Ana, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

A 2025 clip of Bishop Athanasius Schneider calling out the “invasion” of Islamic migrants into Europe for destroying its Christian heritage has resurfaced across social media after tens of thousands of migrants swarmed into Spain last week [this article is from Aug. 1st]

In the brief clip, noting the mass influx of Muslim migrants into Europe, the bishop stressed that many of these people are not refugees and that the “mass Islamization” of Europe is part of a plot by the “powerful” to destroy Christianity in Europe. Many X users reposted the clip alongside a video of migrants rushing into the small Spanish territory of Ceuta from the Moroccan border last week.

“Now we are witnessing an invasion. They are not refugees—no—this is an invasion of the mass Islamization of Europe,” the bishop said in the clip. “And so this is a global political agenda by the powerful of the world: to destroy Europe culturally and religiously—to destroy Christianity ultimately in Europe.”

Pope Leo XIV urged Europe to return to its Christian roots and to engage with people from other cultures living within it during a speech delivered in France's northeastern city of Metz on Monday, the fourth and final day of his visit. Pope Leo XIV told European leaders, “Relations between individuals and states are becoming increasingly uncivilised,” and he said, “Europe can help to break this cycle through the respect for others that it has learned to cultivate and preserve.”

Pope Leo XIV also said, “We need to commit ourselves to patient dialogue, to show courage in negotiation and to be willing to give up some positions for the greater good of peace,” as he addressed religious and civil leaders at the Robert Schuman conference center. Pope Leo XIV framed the moment as “an unprecedented encounter between peoples and cultures,” and he said it calls Europe to “rediscover our roots in new and creative ways, while at the same time listening carefully to others.”

So he is claiming that Europe is becoming less Christian and thus less civilized.

But civilization in Europe existed for thousands of years before Christianity arrived, so its roots are hardly in Christianity.

Then he goes on to insinuate that during the Christian era people were more tolerant toward other cultures and religions and migrants. I mean, come on, Bobo, stop with the gaslighting.

Center for Judicial Renewal Promotes its Religion Test for Future SCOTUS Justices at FRC Summit

Philip Jauregui, a longtime religious-right judicial activist, spoke at the Family Research Council’s Pray Vote Stand activist conference on Saturday, where he promoted the Center for Judicial Renewal’s unconstitutional “biblical worldview” test for future Supreme Court justices, which Right Wing Watch first exposed in 2023. The Center for Judicial Renewal is a project of AFA Action, the political arm of the American Family Association. It has urged President Donald Trump to fill any future Supreme Court vacancies with judges who pass Jauregui’s “faith and worldview” test.

The Supreme Court, said Jauregui at Pray Vote Stand, was “the vanguard in breaching our national relationship with God” with decisions removing official prayer, Bible readings, and the Ten Commandments from public schools, leading God to cut off his blessings on America. God is “not just a topic,” said Jauregui, “He is God almighty.”

Jauregui mapped the curses he said were afflicting America onto a section of the biblical book of Romans, denouncing the sexual revolution of the late 1960s and 70s, the mainstreaming of “the LGBT Agenda” in the late 80s and 90s, and the “depravity” of gender ideology and new “ways of doing evil” in the 21st Century.

With the current right-wing majority on the Court, Jauregui said, SCOTUS is “on their way” home, like the prodigal son of the Bible story. But even this Court does not have “five faithful justices doing what we think they ought to every time,” he said. The Senate is important he said, because there could be as many as four vacancies in the next six years, and it is important that those vacancies be filled with people more likely to do what the AFA wants. “We can’t just hold ground,” he said to applause. “We have to take ground.”

According to a slide displayed by Jauregui, his researchers have logged 10,000 hours of research on federal judicial prospects. The first of the 10 principles the group weighs is “biblical worldview.” Jauregui said, “I would say it's one of the most important things that we look at because it's one of the most indicative that they’re going to truly be faithful to their role.“

A flyer distributed during his talk said his group has researched over 35 Supreme Court prospects and identified six that meet the group’s standards: Right-wing judges James Ho, Kyle Duncan, and Lawrence VanDyke; Solicitor General D. John Sauer; FBI Co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey; and Kristen Waggoner, president of the religious-right legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, which has led legal efforts to ban abortion, resist and reverse progress on LGBTQ+ equality, and undermine separation of church and state.

It’s well past time for Catholic hospitals to be secularized

After 120 years, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, a Catholic health care institution in Antigonish, N.S., has been secularized.

“We decided this is a good time,” said Sister Brendalee Boisvert, leader of the congregation known colloquially as “The Marthas.”

In fact, it’s well past time that Canada’s publicly funded health care system ends its uncomfortable affiliation with religious institutions that routinely deny patients essential care.

One hundred and twenty-nine of Canada’s 1,087 hospitals are Catholic. Most refuse to perform medical assistance in dying, abortion, tubal ligation, hysterectomy, vasectomy, gender-affirming care, or provide birth control to patients, with some even denying the morning-after pill to victims of sexual assault. There are exceptions, such as cancer-related surgery that affects the reproductive system, and workarounds like bringing in “visiting” nurses to administer meds, or building MAID clinics next door.

Many long-term care homes with religious affiliations also refuse to allow MAID on their premises.

These policies are offensive – and likely unconstitutional (court challenges are underway) – and particularly problematic in smaller communities like Antigonish where there is a single hospital or care home.

Denying common procedures on religious grounds is not the same as, for example, not doing heart transplants in rural Nova Scotia because of their complexity. Not to mention that all hospitals, Catholic and otherwise, are funded in exactly the same way: from the public purse.

Hospitals have been publicly funded since medicare was implemented – beginning with Saskatchewan’s hospital insurance program in 1947, through to federal funding in 1957, and Quebec joining the medicare program in 1961.

In the decades since, governments of all political stripes have largely allowed religious institutions to make their own rules, and limit access on religious grounds.

In Nova Scotia, for example, the province signs a “mission assurance agreement” that allows hospitals to impose their beliefs on patients. Most provinces have similarly dubious contractual practices.

Clearly, denial of services should result in denial of public funding. We should not be supporting institutions that discriminate on religious grounds.

Catholic institutions argue that their communities have a right to religious beliefs and conscientious objection to practices that offend their values.

But institutions don’t have a conscience, and they don’t have rights. Individuals do.

You can’t coerce religious observance on patients by denying them routine procedures.
