RE: What would you do if you found out God existed

I was going for an antonym of "frayed". Sort of a pun, you see.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

My pessimism springs from observing humans. Give me something that was ought to be great; and a human must come to ruin it by spreading negativity and selfish ideas.
Is that why you think the industrial age came about, or is that another metaphor? Maybe you should get out and observe more humans, or a different bunch of them. It really shouldn't be too hard to find good people doing good things...even in the shittiest of circumstances. If you're committed to pessimism, however, you might not find good people doing good things if they were dancing on the tip of your nose...so there's that.
Just one example: Telescopes witnessed the crazy growth we see today, And their begining wasn't quite for peaceful reasons:
Quote:Early telescopes were primarily used for making Earth-bound observations, such as surveying and military tactics.

I did find good people in my short lifetime; but the majority preferred to shed a blind eye for many of the disasters around them. It's always a few very bad group, that does all bad because of a silent majority. To find a group or even a somebody that stands and say no to wrong things; is so quality and so rare.

Yes.
And yes.

You don't have to, try reading the link I posted. Here's a wee snip:
Quote:Claims that some form of consciousness persists after our bodies die and decay into their constituent atoms face one huge, insuperable obstacle: the laws of physics underlying everyday life are completely understood, and there’s no way within those laws to allow for the information stored in our brains to persist after we die. If you claim that some form of soul persists beyond death, what particles is that soul made of? What forces are holding it together? How does it interact with ordinary matter?
That wasn’t hard now was it.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

Again I'll suggest that your problem might be with the quality of your acquaintances, and not a binding comment on the entirety of the human race or our future. The people in your AO may be shitty, but...again, there's no metric for qol that hasn't seen vast improvement. Things are getting better every day.

PLEASE, CL, please tell me that this is you just being facetious! You've been here long enough to understand (hopefully ) that we are not 'angry at the idea of a god', we actually do not believe a god exists.
What is it? Is your automatic Catholic indoctrination kicking in? I've had more than my share of Catholics dishonestly inform me, that I am an atheist because I am 'angry at god'.
I know you don't believe God exists. Which is why I didn't suggest that you were angry AT God, I said the IDEA of God. As in, you wouldn't like it if God did exist and would be angry at Him if He was real. Anyway that's been my impression of most people here, and has nothing to do with "catholic indoctrination", as you put it, since nothing in catholic doctrine states that atheists are angry at God. But as I said earlier in the thread, I must have misunderstood/misinterpreted people's sentiments.
I disagree. You catholic indoctrination is what makes you think atheists are angry at the idea of god and would hate him if he was found to exist. You are so convinced you're right that you confuse hate with clear thinking.
I am angry that so many accept the Judeo-christian god with no concern of whether his existance is an actual fact, and then go on to denigrate people who actually think and reason for thinking and reasoning.

What's your point?
That a real god, if he gave a damn, would give clear evidence for his existance. If not, then why jump thru hoops?

I don't believe in magic; I believe that people differ, and from the obvious they will never unite. Good luck unifying Arabia if you can ! or Asia or Europe. Brixit was an example. The verse applies very well
You must, if you can quote god.

I think her instincts are right. My guess is it's just a cultural phenomenon. It's hip to be militantly pro science. It's not I love science. It's I FUCKING love science!!!!!!! Whoever can get the most red faced in outrage over anything not fucking science is the best.
My favorite part of the I fucking love science movement, is how terrible almost all of them are at math. It is maybe my favorite thing. But that's a separate issue. Although it does reinforce that LOVING FUCKING SCIENCE isn't really about science, it's mostly just posturing for social status.
That's why a simple hypothetical that costs you nothing got everyone acting like morons. Imagine there's a God? NO FUCKING WAy MAN!!!! I LOVE SCIENCE TOO MUCH TO PRETEND SOMETHING NOT SCIENCE!!! DO YOU EVEN SCIENCE BRO!!!
That's just how it looks to me, though, as an uninvested 3rd party.

IKR? Being bad at math is a clear indicator that someone doesn't love science and that it's all virtue signalling....when the truth is, atheists are angry at god.
