On earth; lots and lots have suffered because of the actions of wretched people.
How many citizens on earth? Billions? if half of them only payed 50 cents a day; hunger and thirst will be stopped, no children will go to bed hungry. poor people will get their debts payed; but instead what happens to money ?
People invest their cash and health in causing unimaginable pain to others; in a time all of us could've used what we have to live a decent life.
If somebody felt the pain; they'll also feel why hell is an accepted terminology. I advice people to see the masses that die in wars, the children being gassed in Syria, the torture gulags of dictators. And then discuss hell.
Torture methods; so many of them, makes me think twice about hell's justification:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_me...of_torture
The Rack..The Iron Maiden..These things.
Oh my God a minute in one of these would seem like forever. No wonder using these ways kept people under control; even if the ruling clan took their money, raped their daughters, took their lands and kicked them out...etc.
If something I'm quite sure about; is how just God is. He is so just that he allowed humans to use their mind, and didn't torture them by giving them brains but preventing them from using them. But as the weight of the brain is large; punishments for wrong use are also big.
Does the torturer think how long a minute on the Rack would be for the victim? or does the person not giving the poor think about how it's like to be hungry?

All questions you should ask your torturous god, when you meet it, Atlas.
Here we are, scrambling for food, laid low by painful afflictions....and heaven watches silently. Some of us will be compelled by our misery to do the unthinkable, and when that occurs, heaven sets them aside for torture.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. What you could ask of people, to do for the poor, you could ask of your god. His followers go hungry and die while he watches, and seemingly does nothing. Why? Because bad people will be punished in the next life, unless they convert on their deathbed? Why not intervene now? Free will? He cares more about the free will of evil people, than the free will of those the evil oppress?

Especially when nobody is watching. Especially with no reward.

Uh... We don't believe in resurrection either, y'know.

And what should I do about Billy?
Well, I don't think I could be friends with Sister Bellarmine. Threatening children with hell is something that I consider utterly unacceptable in all cases.
As for Billy, if he's 13 or older just give him a link to this site and we'll chat with him.
(By the way, Sister Agatha, a question: Are you sharing our responses with your students? If yes, have you provided the students with a link to these threads so that they can read our responses in the proper context?)

Sure, sure Brian, is all mythology.
Alexander the great is mythology.
Genghis Khan is mythology in fact all history is 100% mythology.
Gee, I never thought about that Brian.
Quote:It still would not matter if we had the DNA of the alleged character. All that would mean is a man convinced other humans to start a new religion. It still WOULD NOT make an invisible sky hero real, nor magic babies with super powers real, nor would it mean you could murder someone on a torture device and have them magically come back from the dead.
Wrong once again Brian.
Jesus never intended to start any religion.
In fact he was 100% against religions that is why the priests convinced Pilate to kill him.
Quote:Buddha has "teachings" too.
Mohammed has "teachings" too.
Yahweh has "teachings" too.
Get in line, take a number.
I know very very well that Jesus was not the only one teaching but because this so called SISTER is or pretend to be a Christian I mention Jesus and not other spiritual beings.
Got it now?
Theist love to stupidly confuse history with mythology.
We can prove George Washington existed, but the Cherry Tree story is still a FUCKING MYTH.
It is a common tactic in EVERY RELIGION in our species history to AFTER THE FACT retrofit real people and real places and real events into the MYTHOLOGY to sell the BULLSHIT MAGIC.
Alexandra The Great existing would also not prove Harry Potter could fly around on a broom.
I exist, but you'd be fucking stupid to believe me if I claimed I could fart gold out of my ass.
Buddhists and Hindus and Sikhs and Shintoists and Jews and Muslims and Rastafarians when you study their histories ALL incorporate real people and places FALSELY to prop up their respective superstitions.
Point being, MAGIC DOES NOT EXIST.
We can prove Tut's tomb exists, but you still rightfully reject claims of Ra, the sun God and Osiris and Isis and Horus.
If you watch an old Superman movie, you can see REAL cities like NYC and San Francisco in them, but only a fool would believe a man can fly like that.
Israel existed and Rome existed, but that did not mean either Yahweh or Apollo were real.
It merely means humans make up SHIT.

I am at the end of my rope sometimes with all these kids I have to teach and the mean conservative nuns breathing down my neck!

Thoughts? ideas? HELP?!
Kids need discipline.
How you enforce it is a bit left to each person's style.
But do enforce your own rules with fairness... applying punishments and rewards equally, regardless of the individual.
Why do you say your nun colleagues are mean? And conservative?... I thought religions thrived on conservatism.

Also, in your intro thread you said you came to these forums because you don't understand atheism. I'm still waiting for you to ask a question about atheism. And, why in the world are you asking atheists to help you with this little "situation" when you know that most of us don't believe in hell? Nothing about you adds up.
