How do atheists see Jesus' parables?

He didn't really mean everyone, he meant only those that will be compliant.

Come to think of it, that was the problem from the beginning. Only invite those who will be subservient. The rest can get fucked.

How did you come to that conclusion?

Didn't the king kill the original invitees for refusing to attend? The would not submit to his will.

The second group were all subservient to the kings wishes except for one. What happened to him.

Moral: got to step and fetch for god, or else. What a wonderful fantasy.

Pfft. Brewer! Just because you'll get brutally murdered to death until you're dead if you don't do something doesn't mean you HAVE to do it! Silly! You're perfectly allowed to disobey and get brutally murdered to death until you're dead! GAWD! Even *I* know that one!

Yes. Despite Jesus talking to people that the pharisees didn't want to talk to, it seems this god doesn't care much to actually try to convert other people. It's either kneel, or die. No compromise. No understanding. Just do what he tells you to, or he'll make sure you suffer one way or another.

We do have lives and responsibilities. Most of us are very busy trying to survive in this world, and provide for our children and communities. If he wants our time, he'd better put some effort into it. Instead of having a "wedding" and telling people to come to him, how about feeding the poor, healing the sick, and making sure that all his followers have such stellar lives that one just has to wonder how they do it? Instead you have some christians who live horrible lives, and atheists who live outstanding lives, and prayer has no real effect on the world. A broken leg won't be healed by prayer. You still have to go to the hospital.

Yes, that's how blackamail works. We send ourselves to hell. Nevermind asking why someone would be a lake of fire to threaten people with anyway, while calling himself a god of love. Though Jesus did clarify once that he came to bring a sword. Not peace.

Yeah. I always maintain the position that if Jesus were even real he'd be a cunt.

Now, Vor, dear one, I cannot believe that you never set foot in a christian church if you came up with this (cough) gem of a hymn.    Smile

Matthew 13
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

I would not have thought of Huggy as one of the crew who has never claimed to be a christian, and never set foot in a christian church.  I'm very well aware of the verses you quoted.  I'm simply looking for how pure atheists react to the story.

I remember singing that in Sunday School about 1000 times.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
