Hmmph it might be able to beat a human in go, but can it beat a pigeon?

I kind of suspect it, too. But his MO has changed.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Similar formatting and also very interested in Jordan's papers. But if it is the same person, definitely a preferable MO as he is engaging more in conversation.

I knew this was Jordan, but what really interested me was, He is actually able to have actual conversations that don't devolve into personal definitions.

I can only conclude the PGJ is a strange piece of performance art.

He could really benefit from learning that science is not just about getting results but also about communicating those results.

Unless you get something to work that is immediately applicable and can benefit you personally, which is rare in science, then your work is wasted if other scientists do not get to hear about it. This is because we all stand on the shoulders of giants.

The only way your work will be accepted by other scientists is if it's peer reviewed and published. And that means using a certain language (concise, very well crafted, technical) and meeting certain standards (reproducible, falsifiable, proper literature review etc). But even that's not enough. There are so many papers being published nowadays that most of them get ignored. Even if you come up with a really novel and interesting idea, it will drown in a sea of iterative research because academics get rated more on the quantity of publications nowadays than the quality. This is because those in charge are trying to make the process of scientific discovery and academia more efficient but don't really understand what is required for progress. No one will know that your research is interesting if no one reads your paper.

As a currently independent researcher this personally leaves me in a difficult position. I can't compete on volume because there is no funding for my field, so I can only complete on quality but then no one will appreciate the quality because there are so many papers out there that most don't get read many times. And getting a paper published costs me a lot of money, especially if I try publishing somewhere with a high impact factor. So what I have decided to do is to aim to publish my results once a year and to cram as much into a single paper as possible. But to grab people's interests I need to apply my work to practical applications.

Publishing does have advantages for your career though. It impresses interviewers if you show that you are still an active researcher, even if it's not their field.
