New Jersey has voted Democrat in the last seven or eight presidential election. If a political figure that sides with a presidential nominee that his/her state doesn't go with in that presidential election (as Chris Christie did) typically gets voted out in their next election. Again... as Chris Christie did. I don't remember the exact gap, but Clinton took New Jersey by around 15%. Pretty big gap even if I am a little high on that.

It's absolutely no surprise at all. It's not a domino falling or a world-wind of momentum beginning. It's typical voting statistics flowing in the same form as always.

It's funny to listen to CNN and NPR really play it up without informing people of the actual standard fact though.

Trump's unpopularity is not an appropriate strategy for winning elections.

Fielding good candidates, running taut efficient campaigns (don't think the dems got close to that in Virginia gubernatorial race) and making the case for the democrat position on important issues are the right ways to win elections.

Whatever gets drones to the polls is a good strategy for winning elections, Vor.  Whether that's shouting "Communist!", blaming the browns, or saddling some schmuck with the albatross of an unpopular president.
