Net Neutrality to be killed around Thanksgiving

But on what grounds exactly? For their content? or will we get to use their service in a higher more standardized speed?

No, youtube is a service, ISP's are the middlemen, your internet provider can charge you extra for accessing it. So let's say you use comcast, they can provide Amazon Prime at a discount or a separate package from youtube and charge you extra for accessing youtube.

Wow that's seem unfair

Aroura Wrote:so they would have built in incentives to feed you their stuff at top speed, while throttling competitive website speeds down so they are basically unusable

So like if my normal internet speed is this much (for all websites):

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

And Facebook pays for more speed will I:

a) get Facebook in this speed:

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

And every other site in this speed:

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

OR

b) get Facebook in this speed:

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

And every other site in this speed:

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

(in this case the speed Facebook paid for is subtracted from the speed of sites that didn't pay, in the first case the speed of other sites remain the same and Facebook gets a additional boost)

With net neutrality gone it won't just be limited to speed throttling... think more along the lines of purchasing channel packages, except in this case, website packages. Essential sites can end up becoming PPV, forget good quality voice calls on whatsapp and similar, separate charges for data for online gaming, video streaming e.t.c, and worse, constant monitoring of your activities by your ISP without any accountability.

But in this version of the bill at least it won't get that bad, you still will have the right to sue your ISP by yourself provided you can gather the necessary evidence against them, and have enough cash to stand against them in court. Good luck Tongue

RE: Net Neutrality to be killed around Thanksgiving
Yesterday, I came across this article
http://www.businessinsider.com/net-neutr...cc-2017-11

That says that there's no net neutrality in Portugal. Bollocks!
They offer up one example of a mobile package that has no net at all, except for the few apps that you can pick out of a few packs.
That's just a cheaper mobile internet access for those who don't expect to require full web services on their phone...
The curious detail is that I had been looking at that webpage earlier in the day, trying to pick a mobile tariff for the phone I'm giving my kids today for his birthday.
Turns out there are cheaper options with more stuff available.

So...no, mister California idiot Ro Khanna, there is net neutrality in Portugal.
You faulty example is a special pack for people who don't want to pay for the full internet.

There was an isp that did traffic shaping... Was.
People had lower speeds in the evening for stuff like torrents... But the complaints went up to the governing authority and they are forced to cut that crap.

What Magi said, yes.

But as to the speed, you won't get anything faster than it already exists.
Basically, you already get everything at the fastest possible speeds.
The money would only keep those sites at the fastest possible speed, while throttling down others.

There is absolutely no reason to move it back to title I regulations.  It has not harmed the industry, and it has protected consumers.

It seems very possible that they will repeal the protections put invplace during the Obama administration.

That does not mean all the other shit will happen, only that it become legally possible.

Thanks for the explanation Aroura & Magi😘
All hail net neutrality...
But then again, a lot of money could be made from it so I don't see it not happening..sigh...

Yep, it's gonna happen. Pai is just gonna keep changing the language till he is able to con just enough of the population to not protest( or just wait out the protesters). Removing any and all consumer protection is highly profitable for ISPs, so they are gonna keep pushing this till it get's through.

Except that our elected CEOs Wall Street puppets officials see it this way:

There is every reason to move it back to title I regulations.  It has not benefited  the industry while protecting consumers.
