Your grandmother must be my mom. She made the worst meatloaf, couldn't stand it. It was almost like she went out of her way to make it bad lol. Still don't like to eat meatloaf to this day.

You want dry? My mom made meat loaf in an iron skillet, once. We stopped by on the way home from camping, and hadn't had dinner (got stuck in crazy slow traffic). My mom pulled this meat loaf that was black on the edges out of the fridge. She announced that "she liked the crunchy parts". Warmed it up, along with gravy and some other things, and we had some dinner. My wife despises gravy, so I never get that at home;  Dodgy but she soaked that meat loaf in it to soften it up. Big Grin

For that matter, the cafeteria where I used to work had dry meat loaf like V's mom's. I haven't eaten meat loaf in decades.

We need to start a "mom's cooking" thread. Big Grin
I'm still trying to suppress the memories of the crap I had to eat as a kid.
Wonder what my kid thinks of my cooking.

My mother was always saying, "Eat your corn.  It's good for you!" despite the fact I hated it.

Of course, guess who hates corn and refuses to touch it?

I adore midwestern and southern comfort food, but with my health problems, I need to avoid it. Sad

Upon reflection I can't think of a pasta dish I'd eat without sauce. Or most Italian dishes. It at least needs butter.

I love a good meatloaf and sauce. However, pleeeaaase don't sweeten it! GEEZ! If I wanted a cupcake, I would have ordered it. I swear, all modern taste testers are 11yr old diabetics!

I like to play around with the sauce. Not straight up ketchup or anything. Grape jelly was mentioned upthread. Although I don't think I'd care for it on its own, it sounds like a good component in a sauce.
