Why does science always upstage God?

I didn't say you consciously think those things because gods don't exist. They are more like default consequences. So take biology for example: God doesn't exist so we weren't created by God so our origin necessarily comes from nature and biology and the prevailing theory is evolution. Evolution satisfies your worldview and so its easy to accept.

The trouble is that this isn't why I accept biology.  Nor is biology the reason I don't believe in gods. I breed plants and animals.  It's not because I don't believe in god that biology must work....and, buddy, evolutionary biology certainly doesn't satisfy my actual worldview. I'm not looking to nature for instruction on the good life for all of the same reasons I don't and wouldn't look to gods for the same, existent or otherwise. I don't think I've ever spent any time looking out across the ridges thinking "if it's good enough for a bobcat, it's good enough for me!".

You're not capable of abandoning this are you?  Well, good luck I guess.  It never goes well. You aren't going to learn anything or understand anything better when it's over. You'll have asserted your beliefs, not challenged them.

You'll never hear me say, for example..that we shouldn't write a gods laws into our own because gods don't exist.  Or that I accept biology because gods don't exist.  Or that there's only one kind of stuff because gods don't exist.  I think that you're falling into the rut of insisting an untrue thing be true - and it's not going to help you understand atheism or challenge your beliefs.  Your god could come down and tell me he can't stand hookers and that won't change my position on the matter, either.

You might have to accept, at some point, that my worldview is typical for a person in my society, and even typical to other people in my society who also consider themselves christians.  I don;t actually think that I'm particularly unique (pretty much the opposite..I enjoy being a human cog in a massive grinding wheel, interchangeable, replaceable).  I don't know what you hope to accomplish by continually insisting this, above..beyond trying to salvage some prepared points that you showed up with that would have failed anyway.

It might be even more ludicrous to tie ones god to a belief in a magic book than it is to tie that same god into demonstrably false beliefs about others and worldviews.

It’s not an interpretation here, it’s translation. The original manuscripts were written in Greek. Not English, not Chinese, not Russian. They weren’t written by modern scholars. Scholars don’t determine what the Bible says. So the only thing that matters is the original Greek manuscripts. The original Greek manuscripts only say Friday. The rest are theories and they are theories that don’t hold water. I’m sorry but that’s demonstrably true.

Many people write about their own lives and the lives of others decades after the person is gone. What does that matter?

The problem is the people reading. The writings have no contradictions.

40,000 is a dumb number only used by the most extreme people. No moderate person believes that number.
