Which one would you rather be: Deaf or Blind?

Taste definitely. Recently went 50 days without eating. Piece of cake, so to speak . . . .

I'm a keyboardist. Trained classical starting at the age of 4, which was about 4 lifetimes ago. I love reading, I love art and media, but . . . I have to go with losing my sight over hearing.
I could still play, I don't need to see the keys. I also worked for a while at a resource center for the blind, so I have a working knowledge of Braille and a decent knowledge of tools and tech to assist blind folks.

Not only could I handle being deaf, sometimes I envy the deaf. I don't like noise.
If I lost my sight, I would take whatever steps were necessary to end my life. I absolutely cannot imagine living blind and I sure as hell wouldn't want to.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I wonder if you'd have any fun playing with one of these: It's such a beautiful sound. I'd definitely rather go blind than hear strange and beautiful sounds like this again.
Deaf, absolutely, even though I love music and love playing and making it.
I believe since I've had the faculty of hearing all my life, I could enjoy a lifetime of imagined and remembered music, and for the most part get through my life okay. If I couldn't see, though, I'd be bumping into things, and would find it very difficult to drive my car.
I'd say taste over touch for two reasons. 1. You're unlikely to overeat if you can't taste food, I bet. 2. Losing the sense of touch means losing sex. Yeah, pass.
I'm already selectively deaf. Can I have selective blindness (like for this thread?)?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

I'd hate to be either. But I'd have to go with being deaf. I think I may just be a more visual type of person but the answer just comes easily to me, I barely have to even think about it.
Instinctively being deaf would be my first choice just because of survival instinct, I think it's natural to be more afraid of being in a situation where you can't see rather than where you can't hear. There's good looking women, the visuals of sex, non verbal communication, beautiful views, being able to read (I don't know brail) being able to watch a film with subtitles. I used to actually be online friends with a few deaf people because I'd go into a chatroom that would play music rather than have talking on the room mic. So people who can hear would listen to music and people who were deaf could follow along with the room convo without worrying that they're missing out on what's being said on mic. I used to flirt with a deaf girl on there quite a lot. Another thing is I think the deaf community is larger and I'd have a larger network of people who I could relate to. Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason. |
