Admitting You're a Sinner
RE: Admitting You're a Sinner
The bible, a masterful work of deeply metaphoric fiction spanning the breadth of the human condition over a wide range of time and cultures.....or magic book...a bunch of silly horseshit.

Believers seem to prefer the latter.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I’m still waiting for someone to answer this question...

Why should you care? That depends on whether it is the truth or not.

And a follow-up question if I may:  Why should anyone believe that it’s true?

It has been preserved for millennia and stands as the oldest and most proliferated text in the world.
It claims to enable the human race to be informed and prepared to live in harmony with God.

So essentially your answer is, because it’s really old and it makes claims about a god. You honestly think these are good reasons to take it seriously?

The reasons are all within the book. I haven't given you any reason to accept it.
Don't ask others to study it for you.
People have searched harder for gold than wisdom, and yet wisdom is easily accumulated.

I am already aware of what you believe, do you realize that you keep repeating yourself?
What would you like me to say that convinces you that I get what you are saying?

Just one example would be nice to qualify what you are trying to preach.

It's either true or it isn't, only a personal investigation will show that.
I don't think people "should" believe anything they're not informed about.

Hey, it is no trouble at all. But so long as you don't feel the need to quote your special book or argue for it's specialness I won't have any reason to remind you. Your move.

An example of what?  A highly competent metaphor in the bible?  What's the point. Magic book believers will tell me that the rib woman really did eat the fruit cause the dragon said so, and that this is not only a true story from the past..but that magic book is a crystal ball that can predict the future as well.

... Magic book believers will tell me...

So you go by hearsay?
If you don't have a Bible, get the King James version, sometimes called the Authorized Bible, not the New King James or other copy righted versions, and especially not the Revised, Good News, or New International versions, which are fake.

Oh, I’ve read it. You didn’t answer my question though. Are the facts that it’s a very old book, and that it makes god claims, good reasons to consider it true?

Quote:It's either true or it isn't—

Yes. Correct.  What I’m asking is, what reason is there to believe that it is?  If there is no good reason to believe that it is, then we can rationally dismiss its claims. Harry Potter is either true or not true, and I don’t think you’d argue with me on that one, regardless of whether or not you’ve read it, right?
