If there is anything this episold demonstrates to the world,  it is that any foreign power can further screw with the mechanics of american election and thus make a mockery of the notion that the great US of A is actually a sovereign nation.   What is more, if the foreign power is called out for this infringement, the good god fearing, flag waving folks of Jesus and guns here can be counted on to, in actual effect, uphold the prerogative of the foreign power.

It is not clear which actually makes the US more of a Gilbert and Sullivan parody of important nation, that we can say with a straight face that a egotistical incompetent baboon like trump is the president, or that those most wrapped in flag cares the least about the fact that a rival power has subverted the process which we claim to most clearly define us as distinct from those whom we hold in contempt.

I had to double check that you were an atheist.  Being capable of that absurd a level of belief, and not applying it to Jesus or Allah or something just seems wasteful.  Like those 7 foot guys that don't like basketball.

Yes, curse my credulity! It's obviously an unwarranted assumption that Trump didn't actively take steps to try to undermine the investigation and possibly obstruct justice. And those long-standing, potentially compromising financial connections to Russia? A figment of my imagination. And that Trump Tower meeting? Russian adoptions, of course. Kushner's repeated attempts to create a back-channel to the Kremlin through the Russian embassy? Nothing to see there. And lie after lie after lie concerning an investigation that -- supposedly -- is just a partisan witch hunt? Well, that's par for the course; people with nothing to hide routinely act like they have something to hide.

There are two sides to this question of just who is kidding whom or who is really applying an absurd standard of critical thinking to the question. Careful where you cast those aspersions, pot. I just had the carpet cleaned.

People should care about Russia, which is why the media continue to report on it. If the media just reported on things that people cared about, we'd be reading fluff stories everywhere.

The mere possibility that a foreign power, and a historic adversary at that, could have possibly interfered with our election process is bad for our democracy.

If the CNN type media reported on it, rather than tried to shape stories that implied things democrats wanted to hear, I think people would be less resistant to it.  Unfortunately, that's not how for profit news rolls.  Who wants to read about 'inconsequential attempts to change a few voters minds' when you can read "AMERICAN ELECTION UNDER SIEGE BY RUSSIAN INFLUENCERS!!"

But what we seem to have that's tangible is Russia posted a bunch of fake shit on Facebook and Twitter.  So for a year, people have been hearing "OUR DEMOCRACY IS UNDER ATTACK!  WHO KNEW WHAT!?!?!?!?"  And what we've seen is a picture of Jesus arm wrestling the Devil in a Facebook Meme.  It's hard to reconcile the two things.

If you don't connect the hysteria of the initial claim with something more significant, people are going to lose faith in the people acting hysterical.

If you think that all Russia did was post a bunch of "fake shit on Facebook and Twitter" you need to go brush up on what the investigation is actually about.

The DNC got hacked, the RNC likely got hacked. Emails got leaked, there were meetings between Russians and the Trump campaign. Trump might have more business ties to Russia than he admits to. Several members of the Trump campaign have been accused of being foreign agents working for Russian interests. There's a lot of stuff being investigated.

I have fond memories of yesteryear, when every other day there was an "It's Happening!  Draw up the impeachment papers!" revelation that signaled the end was imminent for the Trump family.   After a year, I think most Americans, outside of the diehards, are recognizing that it really was a witch hunt and a waste of money.  It'll be fun when Mueller comes out and says it's over and Trumps in the clear just in time for the midterms.  Another masterful piece of strategery from the DNC.

I keep forgetting how a few AF members have the inside track on what Mueller does or doesn't know.  

The longer this drags on without anything serious coming out, the more reasonable it is to conclude there's nothing there.

The Strzok issue also has more people viewing it as a witch hunt.

And just for good measure, the FISA memo may be coming out soon.
