RE: Names.
I like my real name. I like my nickname (Ivy). I like my username (Jack). I wouldn’t mind Jack being my middle name IRL. Smile

RE: Names.
Other than my first name being nearly ubiquitous, I love my name. I'm named after my father.

I've gone by many nicknames. but most of my life I've been called my last name. On account of the fact that there are 4 Mike's in my best friend group, we go by our last names. And there also was the military thing.

I've gone by Mike, Mikey, Mikey P. Rozkek calls me Spencyboi on Slack. I like Steel, too.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

That's going to be a tad confusing.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

It would certainly be awkward in a Mexican prison.

RE: Names.
My name is Paul.

In college my nickname was Rod.  A tutor randomly thought I should be called Rod because I like 80s songs with lots of guitar and guitar solos.  He called me Rod maybe 3 times then my group of friends away from college all started calling me Rod to the point where it became natural to respond to it which is pretty weird.  Even the tutor who originally called it me was freaked out by the trend he started.

Among my nightclub friends a group used to call me smirnoff because I told one of them my second name was Smirnoff while I was drunk (Smirnoff is a really famous vodka brand) and they believed me and it was another kind of situation where I had a whole load of people calling me Smirnoff.

So I could be walking around with an old friend who knows me as Paul and if we coincidentally ran into college or nightclub friends they'd wonder why someone is calling me Rod or why I'm responding to someone shouting "Hey Smirnoff" from across the street.

People just use my real name these days.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

RE: Names.
My right name is Pádraig Micheál Shannon (I'm not going to tell you my confirmation name).  I was named after my mother eldest brother (of course) and I absolutely love my name.  My given and middle names are equivalent to 'Patrick Michael' in English, and are properly pronounced 'POOR - ig MEE - hall'.  As a child, I was universally called 'Patsy', which gradually changed to 'Pat', and is what I'm generally called now.

Various nicknames I've been saddled with over the years:  Patch/Patches, Long Fella, Keeb, Punchy.

'Brian Sodding Boru' is the only online name I've ever used, bar a brief period on Yahoo chat where I was known as 'God's Left Testicle'.

When theists on Yahoo objected, I politely explained that 'God's Right Testicle' was already taken, and 'The Prick In The Middle' might cause confusion.

RE: Names.
Not really happy with my name, but I don't have all that much to complain about.
"Gert" is not an uncommon Dutch name. I just grew up during the heigth of a show called "Samson & Gert" which was a bother.
Also, people tend to call me "Gertje", which is like turning 'Thomas' or 'Tom' into 'Tommy' or 'Robert' into 'Robbie'. You know? Making it "little" 'insert name', instead of just 'insert name'.
People older than me, people younger than me, people I'm related to, people I've only met a few times, people I work with, ... People can't stop themselves, I think it's some vibe I send out.
I don't like it, but I'm used to it.
