Adopting Children of Another Race

RE: Adopting Children of Another Race
Anayway regarding the question at hand, sure, If I could adopt a child, I would, of any race. In Portugal it is a very hard process for people with less money capacity, I mean. The Evangelicals getting kids easily by money is under investigation. For some there is a shitload of redtape, for those with money, quite easy I guess Sad

It makes me sad because there are a lot of couples willing to give a child a home, but can't. Need to psay the crooks first.

In my country this is a touchy issue . Because the government use to take native children (even though there was no history of abuse or neglect ) away from there parent specifically to prevent them from learning their culture. (essentially cultural genocide ) Essentially an individualized version of the residential schools . All designed to "beat the indian out of them "

Given the racist history in this country, I can see why some black people don't like white people adopting black kids, even if I don't agree with it.

We did that too here in America. That stopped back in the 40s here, iirc. And you're right, it's cultural extermination.

Since you mentioned it, would you like to create a thread about it? I’d been meaning to ask you about it because it seems sensationalist, but the rules prevent me from doing it (calling out).

What is the Sig? I can't see it on my mobile.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

This couple fostered three siblings (white) and ended up adopting all three. The couple is brown. They love the kids and didn’t want them to be separated from each other. People really disliked the idea of them not adopting brown kids. Why? Fuck. I don’t know. Some people think brown kids are used as accessories. Some people think white kids are privileged even when they’re orphans. Some people think bull shit. People like to bitch. Let them. I think kids want stability and love and they won’t be focused on anything else. Kids adapt. They’d probably choose a home with a different culture than hopping around foster homes for years. As a social worker, I really believe this.

I do hear that brown is very slimming.

It's a quote from John Rosemond, a psychologist:

Quote:In the 1960s, American parents began looking to mental health professionals for child-rearing advice. Since then, an exponential per-capita increase in child mental health professionals has matched a dramatic deterioration in child mental health. No new therapy or drug has stopped this downward trend.

John Rosemond

I see several things wrong with the quote, but the most prominent one is it uses the same kind of argument that vaccine denialists use with autism. They see an increase in the number of cases of autism being diagnosed, and magically link it to vaccines, when the accepted theory is just that we've gotten better at diagnosing autism (not to mention, autism is a spectrum, there are levels of severity). I expect the same thing is happening with the deterioration in child mental health, it's not that mental health professionals are causing it, but that they are simply more capable of diagnosing it that they were 50 years ago.

However the quote is without references, so I'd quite like to see any evidence for the contrary.

I think reading into that the health professionals are causing it is a stretch. Rosemond contends for the most part it doesn't exist.

I'm having concerns with psychiatric medications that have only been tested individually on adults are being concurrently prescribed for children.

Not testing (some? most?) of those drugs on children, and furthermore, not testing them in all their combinations on children before prescribing them in the general population would seem to me to be malpractice.

Multiple concurrent drug prescriptions is called polypharmacy and is a huge problem for the elderly from exponential increases in side effects and interactions, and yet if you go looking for polypharmacy concerns in children there is hardly anything to look at.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Testing medications on kids used to be an anathema, it's getting better now: https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/ResourcesForYo...143565.htm

Still room for improvement.

Polypharmacy in geriatrics is a whole different conversation.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Indeed . . .

Even the 'middle aged'. Had a 12 Stepper friend die from it I suppose around 10 years ago. It was tough listening to him at meetings, he wanted to be drug free, both prescribed and things he abused. He had so many psychiatric diagnoses and seemingly a pill for every one of them too. Started having seizures one night at his parents house and despite EMTs getting there quick and transporting him, there wasn't anything anyone could do. At least we found out at 12 Steppers what happened to him, seems like so many times people have just disappeared and we never learn what became of them.
