Caveat:
How can I criticize christian outreach when I don't know what atheists are doing to help young people, grieving people, hungry people. Religious groups help people by lying to them, but the people do feel like they're being helped. What do we do? Are there groups that give secular help without the religious strings attached to it?
I find this question a little naïve tbh. We as atheists don't have anything to sell so we do good deeds for the sake of doing good we don't need to say "Hey everyone look at us atheists doing good" and we don't need to say "Hey teens this is how you have good relationship by being an atheist" It's just human to human "Hey teens this is how you have a good relationship- point blank."
We don't need to counter her book with an atheist book we counter it with a normal book. Look at Chicken Soup for the Soul, they have every kind of thing you can get help with and it's not religious unless you pick a religious one. I'm an author so I have for the Writer's Soul and my mom got me Teenage Soul I, II, (and I think III but maybe not) and I learned from them without religion pushed on me.
If you want to see atheists helping though there are some people that feel the need to point out that they are atheists doing good I'm part of Austin Atheists Helping the Homeless where a bunch of atheists get together and go hand out clothes and necessities to the homeless. A lot of people bring their kids with so they can teach them what it means to be a good person.
